No you don't. The GOM is a reflection of how you last drove the car. It will go up beyond 15 miles if you change the way you drive (but i don't see why you would).

So I called the iPerformance customer line at BMW USA and asked for an explanation. They said that the car will show different charge miles especially in different geographies. They said that it takes into account location, environment, etc. Not sure how true it is but it would be interesting to compare my charge to someone who is also in NJ.

Either way, it's still better than the mileage I was getting on my M4. Certainly beats my X6M which just gets me around 16 - 18 mpg. However, it can't beat my Prius Prime which is doing around 107 mpg and only needs gas every 2-3 weeks.

BMW 530e EV mileage

city driving in SF I only get 8 miles on electric drive. Not sure how you all got 15 miles on a fully charged battery. Tried all variables - no heat, EcoPro, but still not nothing above 8/9 miles. Wondering why the discrepancy with the advertised EV and what I actually ended up getting. Any views?

Hills. It takes a lot of energy to climb those San Francisco hills, and while the car will recover energy when you're going downhill, b/c of how the motor/generator is situated in the drivetrain, you're never going to get nearly the energy recovered that you took out.

With the exception of the last trip back home, when it might be effective to personally manage the battery charge, I have found that in auto mode it pretty much will maximize the use of the batteries. Mine will often run down to "0" when I do so but will stay there leaving me boost capacity and occasional pure electric driving.

I leave my AC on auto and drive with a bit of a lead foot. On my last fill up I got 53 mpg but that is with charging overnight and a lot of local driving.

Just refueled again. 265 miles with 6.03 gallons for a mpg of 44. Again mostly local driving and plugging in only at night. Lead foot and almost entirely in auto mode.

So I have had my UK 530e for a few weeks now so still playing around with the best setup based on my driving style. My standard day goes like this , NOTE that the car is hooked up outside on my driveway (240V):

- Activate remote climate control 15 mins before departure to defrost windows and warm the cabin nicely - This leaves approx 14 miles of battery
- If I dont climatise the cabin it will say ~16 miles of battery
- Pure EV Mode (NOT AUTO) and EcoPro driving style with heat and music etc on full
- After school run which is approx 4 miles round-trip, it will say ~4 miles remaining
- On school pick-up run it will drain just before I get back home so will engage AUTO
- So approx 8 mile of real-world urban driving where my speed does not go more than 45mph but lots of stopping and starting

Approx daily cost of electric based on only the usage above is less than £1

I haven't been on any long journeys yet involving motorways so intrigued to understand how long it takes to fully re-charge the battery.

YES - I LOVE this car!

23 mile commute home today... 86% on electric = 19.8 miles on ev. Ecopro mode and max edrive, flipping to auto to fire up the engine for the 1 significant hill on the motor way. I got 140 mpg on my last tank of petrol, with over 1000mile since the last fill

Not on mine here in the US.
I'm in the US and I get 17-19 miles showing on full charge.

I can take a photo to prove that wrong. I charge mine up from UK mains dauly, and, fully charged, it says 16 miles most of the time. It will often say 17 or 18.

Granted, I don't usually get that, but infact get pretty much 15 miles actual range using Max E Drive.

Thats great if you can fully re-charge at both ends of your motorway run. I took mine up the M6 to Scotland over the w/e and quickly realised that if you dont brake (which I didnt coz motorway was quiet) then you will not recharge your battery unless you switch to Battery Charge Mode - Select 100% but then your MPG goes from a steady ~45mpg to ~30mpg - sort of false economy really. Good job I dont use the motorway a lot.

I live in the hills, but much of my commute is sea level and flat for 18 miles one way. The charge will usually display 14 miles, and sometimes 15 miles if it's warm outside. Once in a blue moon it will display 16 miles. If I climatize in the morning, the 14 becomes 13.

Honestly though, in eDrive, for a good 88-94% electric driving, it gets me through my commute on one full charge each way (18 miles.) I don't think I'd have as much fun in a Prius Prime those few times I want to fly up a hill or punch it to switch lanes.

Just filled up with petrol yesterday. 550 miles total, 322 of them without the engine running. Apparently coasting with the engine off counts towards electric miles. My normal, all electric drive will only get me about 13 miles even though it starts out saying 16 or 17 miles. I guess that is what I get for living on a hill.

So what was your total fuel or avg mpg for the 550 miles traveled?

Total fuel was 10.115 gallons, for right at 54.4MPG. I don't see a way to keep track of how much electricity I put into the car via charging. I use the BMW supplied 120v charger at home.

I have actually read the stated range in USA is like 20mpg officially be EPA where as in UK and else where its 31+ mpg.. I imagine its their rate of measurement. I am hoping its decent as I won't be able to charge at home so it will be more sporadic for me.

I never see 22 miles. It's usually between 14 - 16 miles.

Mine has never shown more than 13. That number really doesn't mean a whole lot though in my opinion after driving a few weeks. I drove an earlier X5e and I was really disappointed in how it managed the battery. After a day, it still had 80% remaining. What's the point of hauling a battery around if you aren't using it? So I decided to manage the battery myself by selecting modes. Nope. It defaults to auto every time you start. The new 530e is different. I am not sure how much "learning" it does but my commute almost completely drains the battery. It also does such a great job of deciding when to use electric/gas that I haven't even tried driving in electric only mode. There really is no point. It runs all electric by default until a speed or throttle level is exceeded (this varies based on charge and prediction).

Once the novelty wears off, all that really matters is that you charge it when you can and have fun

I've had mine since 8-2017, drive primarily in ECO MODE, get about 430 miles on a tank. I only get about 13 miles on a charge and only charge overnight. Battery is usually completely drained by the end of my 27 mile one way commute in the morning.

I've been doing a little research and it looks like ECO doesn't really regen the battery as well as comfort because of how much free wheeling there is in ECO MODE. I'm trying comfort mode on this tank to see how it affects MPG.
