Engine rev issue
Hi, I am currently driving a 2019 530i. Just today i was abit playful, so after started my car i went on to rev the engine till 7k rpm.
Right after i released the pedal, the needle reaches at 3k rpm and continue to rise up to 4k rpm even tho I wasnt my accelerator. ( was freaked out obviously ) The rev counter will increase rev by itself that I have to shut the engine down. Waited awhile and restart and everything back to normal. Just wondering are any of you guys experienced it before? Will it spoil the engine instantly?

My guess would be the engine is trying to speed up the warm up in anticipation for a quick start or the ECU is trying to burn off all the excess fuel from the lean mixture of a cold start and the redline rev you did put even more fuel into it. Just my guess but who knows what happened. Better not doing that again.
I start my car and drive off right away every morning but I don't step on it so much. |

Rested a while and restart. Everything was fine. Tried once more revved up till 6k rpm and the needle rested back to 1k rpm. Definitely wont do that again unless engine is heated up and driving on the road. Thanks for the info mate. Cheers.

Back in the early 90s, the Corvette ZR-1 was experiencing a series of engine failures right off the assembly line. Turns out a factory worker was getting into the car at the end of the assembly line and immediately revved the 375 HP DOHC engine to redline to drive off the line. Cams failed due to lack of lubrication on initial start up. Once the worker was removed there was never another engine failure. You should never rev an unloaded engine to redline and absolutely never on initial start up. There is insufficient lubrication to critical engine parts. --Bob

OP is not in the US and cars can cost a lot more in other parts of the world with taxation playing a major role. For instance, in another thread a user from Denmark noted they paid $174K USD for a 540i as taxation on cars in Denmark is 150%.
Taxation in the US is generally a lot lower and we don't have emissions based taxation and etc. So you can't do a straight line cost comparison between countries. https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...9#post25108149 |

Our tax is around 100% so yeah... but with high price also comes with a somewhat high spec as compared to most of other countries such as Eu. Tats y we BMW dont even bother bringing in 540i and M550i as the price will be even crazier plus hefty roadtax. So if you want higher-power and a V8. BMW Malaysia know you are loaded, and you would go directly to M5. Which is around USD250k.
