So what would you guys do with damaged wrap
This is XPEL
don't ask me what happened I have no clue, parked then come back to this (rear bumper on the left side), though I'm quite puzzled as to what actually happened? If someone were to scratch me it has to be some ridiculous weird angle to be on there "only" (I checked around didn't see anything else and car drives normal all sensor seems normal too) could it be someone took a key to it? in any case, what are my options 1. leave as it is (a bit ugly, but livable, and I don't see any downside) 2. take of the whole wrap on the rear bumper off...? |

You used PPF on the rear bumper? Complete car condom?
I sure hope the PPF absorbed the damage, but I'm not so sure some damage didn't pass through to the paintwork. Yes, take it off and if need be have the rear bumper re-done.

I have the same issue also Xpel. From what I understand, you have to pay someone to remove it and then pay them to install a new one. I decided to live with it.

If it were mine my first stop would be the original installer (or a competent detailer/Xpel installer if you don't know the original) for his recommendation and pricing. --Bob

Why would you have to pay someone to take it off? It’s not rocket science and what’s the worst that happens? Google videos.

I've never had Xpel, but am I missing something here or isn't the whole point of getting a PPF exactly for incidents like this to save you having to repaint the entire panel??
How much is it to get the film redone on that panel? I wouldn't leave it looking all scuffed up like that. You obviously care about the car, so just pick the most cost effective fix. |

Well before you take it off I’d polish it to see if in fact it needs removing. And removing it isn’t rocket science but it’s a ton of work. So going to a shop, They will charge the same for removal and install as they will an install.

I looked again last night pretty sure paint is all good, those white thing you see on the pictures are just ripped XPEL (ie unless I don't care about the look the XPEL definitely has to go)
Called dealer found my original installer was Paint Protection Inc (in Brooklyn though they did it at dealer, BMW Manhattan), will call them and Detailing Dynamic and one more shop in queens (tint shop in flushing?) to see what they quote, everyone else is a bit more out of the way (live on Roosevelt Island, between Manhattan and Queens), if luck has it I'm taking Friday off anyway maybe I can get it done same day before the Labor Day weekend... |

Even if you decide not to bother, it's certainly worth the effort to find out how much it will cost. They should be able to quote you over the phone.
My understanding of Xpel is that it is plastic with clear coat on top (just like the paint on your car) so it can be cleaned and polished. Of course, if it's torn, then there's no repairing that. Removing it shouldn't be too bad. It's only when it gets old and brittle that it starts breaking up and takes a lot of time.

first quote, the one from Brooklyn: $580, I told them no issue with paint, so just remove existing rear bumper XPEL, polish then re-install. They say they will take a look to see if they can polish it out too (I highly doubt that, since the XPEL is actually ripped, the white stuff on the photo). Downside: booked until 2nd week in Sept...
