Michelin PS5 on 540 (run flats)?

Dear all,

A very naive question but I am a newbie really so excuse the ignorance

I got my 540 M Sport MY2023 and been driving it for a month and not enjoying the Goodyear Run Flats (20") at all!

For context, I drive in Dubai, mostly well paved roads and no track or off roading.

I was thinking after reading many reviews to get Michelin PS5 being the better for daily driving as this is my style of use and being an upgrade from PS4/ (S).

But am I confused that there are 2 version of the PS5, Runt flats and None Run Flats?

And if this is correct, which one is the best choice for my car?

I also read that there is an OEM BMW PS5? Also and Acoustic version?

Really need the help here with all these parameters being the new driver I am 🫡

Much appreciated!

I assume you want 245/35/20 and 275/30/20. But there's no PS5 in 275/30/20. And no run flat for the PS5 in 245/35/20.

You are right on the sizes. I am not targeting run flats per se. As I want to enjoy better handling around corners especially and more comfort as the current F1 Eagle run flats are too harsh.

On view of lack of PS 5 sizes: what do you recommend:

- wait till sizes are out or go for PS4S?
- should I even wait for PS5S?

Thank you so much!

I'd expect the ps5s to come out next year, or just go with the excellent ps4s now, thats up to you to decide.

I have a '22 540i with 19" run flats. I'll be getting go flats as soon as these OE tires wear out. I have Mich A/S 4's on other cars and love them. That's what I will be going with on the G30 in the spring.

First, the Goodyear Runflats are the absolute worst runflats out there. They ride hard and fail easily. There are better runflat options out there, but at the end of the day, runflats all ride hard and are more likely to fail from impact. This doesn't seem to be a concern for you where you live though, but since you are lucky enough to drive on such smooth and consistent surfaces and the temperature does not go below 40F, you absolutely should be on Michelin Summer Non Flat rubber. Either the PS4S or the Super Sports. They are soft and sticky. Get them from the dealer and make sure they are BMW star marked. The star marked versions are designed for BMW to a higher standard.

Thanks Joe, indeed going for the PS4S.

Dealer has no idea what the heck is out there and they contacted a supplier that I know already and they got a me quotation of 4400 USD to change the tires. Funnily enough same supplier gave me the same tires quotation for 1200 USD!

Anyway m, now here is the problem with BMW star. I have R20: front 245/35/R20 95 Y (PS4S star exists) but the problem with the rear as my size 275/30/R20 97 Y (does not exist in Star spec).

So my options are:

1- get the rare none star specs while the front are. Guess that would be a bit odd.
2- Go all for none OEM - None star
3- change the size to 245/40/R20 99 Y and 275/35/R20 102 Y. But not sure that would fit and if it fits what that make any issues with driving and control or friction with the wheels housing .. etc

Appreciate your guidance on sizing here!

Do you have xdrive? If not, no need to get star marked tires.

Stay with stock tire size and take what you can get in terms of star vs non star. That's what I would do.

Continental sport contact 7 seem to be winning all the latest tyre reviews, they might be worth considering over the PS4S

I drive on Mich Pilot Sport 3 RFT with star rating. These are in the correct sizes and are very good. As I was informed G30/31 underbody has been tuned for rfts, I would not change that.
