Having lived with an SUV for a couple years now I have to say they're not 100% bad. My Touareg handles pretty damned well, is incredibly comfortable for long family hauls and is immensely capable... Yeah it's too heavy and too far off the ground, but the Treg's so much better than my pretty-excellent Passat on all fronts that it's the standard I'll be holding my 330i to (errr... when I get one) for poise, sophistication and balance.

That Toyota is cool, it's unique, and might well be a pretty decent vehicle. I don't know that I'd personally trade a performance sedan for it, but you really gotta go with what you love.

i feel llike im going crazy because i LOVE the 3, dont get me wrong. i do at least a double-take before the garage closes. and it puts a smile on my face evry time i drive it. but the FJ seems like such a departure from the "norm." i baby my car i love it so much. and thats the thing...with the FJ i wont have to worry about parking it at a mall, i can beat the crap out of this car and itll come back for more, i can hose it down at the end of the day, not that i do, but i can go practically anywhere with this car, dirt, snow, mud, road...

but when reality sets it im sure ill be sick of it within a month, like someone said. but maybe when the hype dies down a bit ill get one for a daily beater. the only prob is there are SOOO many cool cars coming out now.

so many cars...so little time...

The problem with the BMW E90 is that it is so perfect it lulls you into a sense of boredom....there I said it!!!

Take your Bimmer out (turn off the radio for a few moments) to a lonely stretch and floor it....go to a canyon road and put the hammer down. Torture your baby and watch it come begging for more....you'll remember why you bought it in the first place.

Where in Socal do you need an FJ?

It kind of looks like a Honda Element.

Toyota's marketing would love to hear from you They might want to use you in their future ad campaign...

Seriously, I think the FJ cruiser looks awesome heck, I want one (for a fun vehicle) ... but I am pretty sure it won't drive as well as your 330 It also looks too much like a 'lifestyle vehicle'....I wonder how long until the soft top variant comes out...

Saw one the other day and almost .. IMO, that car is fugly. I saw that the same day I saw the Chevy HHR for the first time, all I could think about is how these car designers can find ways to make cars uglier and uglier, and expect to sell them? For a while I thought they were drunk on the job, lately I think it takes talent to make cars that ugly... I could never imagine such hideous designs...*

Looking at the picture one more time, I noticed it looks like a Honda Element mated with a Nissan Xterra, and the offspring had birth defects and was named FJ Cruiser..*

*Everyone has an opinion, this is just mine...

Keep the E90!!

I don't think you're crazy but I do think you will miss the driving characteristics of the BMW. I bought a 4Runner to go with the 330 but wish I had waited and got the FJ...I think it looks awesome and is esentially the same as a 4Runner. Now if it had the V8 like the Runner it would be even better!

I am Car Crazy too.

In order to satisfy your obsession, go and test drive the FJ. Then do a Porsche, an A6, a Subary Legacy GT, and Chrysler or two, etc etc...

It's a lot cheaper than trading cars every 3 months!

How much of that FJ do you think is really solid and sturdy like the originals? I have some serious doubts that it would hold up to any serious abuse. The older toyotas are practically bomb proof and I just wonder if this one is a bit more "show" and not as much "go".

OK, here is the solution. Get married, then get an FJ for your wife. You can drive it whenever you want. OK, that is a high price to pay.

And yes, it is supposed to be a serious heavy duty Toy. I've had many SUV's including 3 Toyota's, and have seen the new one in person inside and out. It does not dissapoint.

haha already one step ahead of you, my man. im trying to convince my gf to get the FJ. but one day she thinks its hiedious and one day shell think its cool/cute. i think she already sold on the pontiac solstice or the saturn sky. so i got an uphill battle here....but hmm...

...maybe this marriage thing...maybe i can make a proposition (no pun intended)

and the FJ is pretty much a 4 runner so its a proven SUV. and all the comparos agree that its a prttey heavy duty car. even thought it looks small/cute in pics in person its a good mid size SUV and it looks sturdy. and its a toyota, so itll go on and on and on... but yeah maybe for a daily driver.
