I was referring to the situation in Ireland where diesel is currently at least €0.10 cheaper per litre so they will increase the cost of diesel methinks.

540i is certainly a very strong contender for me in 2018 which is when I'm thinking of changing from my F10 530d.
Living in Greater London, any congestion charge or "penalty" for driving a diesel in London is a put off.(I'm literally 200 yards from the planned ultra emission zone that is planned for London). |

UK prices for 530d awd verusus 540i awd are fairly close although you could argue that petrol wise you have to select awd for the 540i but you dont have to specify awd for the 530d

Sorry, just one more time for US buyers: if I want a very comfortable ride on a 540i xDrive, I should get Dynamic Damper Control. Getting the Dynamic Handling Package (with DDC and Adaptive Drive and Active Roll Stabilization) doesn't buy me any more comfort, correct?
Don't get the M Sport Suspension if I am looking for a comfy ride. Could you please confirm? Just from the various posts, it doesn't sound there is a big difference between DDC and no-DDC? |

The whole idea of DDC and continuously variable damping, is to give the best compromise of comfort and a controlled chassis. For me that gives greater comfort. In the G30, we are not going to know how the passive and DDC compare, unless we 'back to back' test (with the same wheels). With the F10 we have three base settings with VDC/DDC, the middle setting being more like the standard passive setup, best matched to the spring rate, but a more refined ride than passive. Comfort+ being even softer. With just the two base settings in the G30, I'm minded that the Comfort setting will be softer riding than the passive suspension. Simply due to Comfort and Sport modes being a compromise around the spring rate. A test drive is the only way to really gauge the true differences. |

I know this has kind of hijacked the purpose of the original thread but yes, saw that 540i and 530d are very similar in price in the UK. I assume this is because of the way our tax system operates...but if I was over there, I would be changing my order for the petrol model instantly, not only for the sweeter engine but also doing my bit for the environment, now that we have all learned about the dirty NO in diesels
