You have to have both lane assist and acc on. It is activated at slower speeds which I think is either 37 or 43 mph , can't recall for sure but is in the tech manuals.
Ie you can both of these activated at say 70mph and if the traffic slows down to say 20 mph for example due to heavy traffic your car will seamlessly go into tja mode. |

Thats lane departure. Which as you say will try and keep you in the lane and nudge you back in if you drift without the indicators on. You can as you say disable that via the safety button shortcut or within idrive. That's separate from lane assist .
Many many systems on this car! If you have done so have a read of the technical docs that have been posted on this forum , they go into more detail as to how they all work. |

Lots of traffic on the way to work this morning.
Turned on active cruise control set to max speed 55 mph. Turned on lane keep assist. Average speed was 0-5 mph; every so often would zoom up to 12-15 mph for a couple seconds before stopping again. Sunny day, good road and lane markers. LKA showed it was tracking both car in front as well as the lanes. I made it a good 15 minutes or so (2.5 miles) and was only prompted to touch the wheel once - this was when traffic opened up briefly and the car accelerated itself to ~15mph for more than a brief moment. Very happy with the systems! |
