Universal Remote Control

Not sure if anyone else has ever specced this, but I did - thinking it would save me having remotes in the car etc, but hey ho - didn't work with my garage door opener. Then I read the manual more carefully and it says you need to have a receiver in the garage that is compatible with the 'Homelink' system.

If you only need it to work with one garage door (which I do pretty much) then you may as well just buy a new receiver that will work with your door and wire it up to the existing door opener. This way existing remotes all still work and now my G30 can open my garage door too. Only thing is that the new receiver costs about £50: https://www.shopssl.de/epages/es1056...317/Categories

Just in case any of you poor sods were in the same position as me...

Don't you have the function on your rear mirror? Mine is homelink compatible and works great.

That's what I mean. The URC on the rear view mirror isn't compatible with my garage door opener. And I tried another couple of boards from a local garage door company and it didn't work with any of them. So I just got the universal receiver.

Then you are doing it wrong or your system is faulty. The BMW button is supposed to be compatible with homelink rolling code systems and works perfectly on mine (I actually have a new rolling code system).

Not sure what wires are being crossed here. My garage door wasn't a homelink compatible one. That's why I got the receiver...

The original receiver unit on his garage door opener mechanism is NOT a Homelink device, Doesn't matter whether the transmitter in his BMW vehicle works with all Homelink units. He needed to get an additional receiver for his garage door that would accept the signal from his car.

Hi Zigmund, I am wondering if you used a handheld transmitter to program your homelink? I'm on the verge buying that universal receiver but I don't know if I need to buy a transmitter as well...

Thanks!

If your UGDO (universal garage door opener) aka Homelink...doesn't operate your garage door...and you have to purchase a Homelink repeater to get what's in your BMW to communicate with the GDO (garage door opener) hanging from the ceiling in your garage (or your gate opener)...the Homelink repeater comes with its ownen handheld transmitter.

The instructions tell you how to hook things up and how/when to use the transmitters to get everything going. You eventually end up using the Homelink repeater's transmitter to program the UGDO unit inside your BMW.

When I had to replace my GDO a few years ago...it did not communicate with any of my BMW's HOMELINK (UGDO) that were installed. I had to purchase a HOMELINK repeater...which solved the problem:

I am in the UK and the USG in my mirror. I also had it in my F11.

I moved house last year and my garage door opener is the SOMMER system.

I could not get it to work at all at first trying to code the BMW USG with the SOMMER Remote.

The LED in the mirror flashed to confirm it had been programmed but the door did not respond. So I took the cover off the Garage Door Base Unit and pressed the learning button and pressed the BMW USG and it started working.

Maybe worth giving it a try.

Hi guys,

My garage door opener does not have a 'learn' button unfortunately... So I'm afraid that won't work.

I got a message from a UK garage specialist that advises me to buy:
- A universal receiver = https://www.easygates.co.uk/product_...?ProductID=600
- A remote that can pair with this receiver and is homelink compatible = https://www.easygates.co.uk/product_...ProductID=1080

Do you think this will work?

I was dealing with this when I had E60 5 series. The problem was that my garage door opener was operating with a rolling code. I had to replace it for one with a fixed code. I still have this setup and was able to learn my G30 to it at first try. It’s not related to Homelink anyhow, it’s just some universal fixed code receiver/controller running at 433Mhz. And I suppose 433Mhz is frequency used in Europe, in the USA, it’s probably 315Mhz, but I’m not really sure.

Guys, what is the frequency used in Canada and if it is different than the one desired can this be coded?

EDIT:

US and ECE universal remotes are both the same and I managed to get it perfectly working on all my garage doors.
