Instrument Cluster tests - pictures

Ok I found it, the details were in the technical documents.
So basically press the start button quickly 3 times within a period of 0.8s and then hold the trip odometer button for 10 seconds.
(if you don't hold it for 10s it will simply show you 4 items, next service etc)

Press the button to cycle through the options. To unlick you need to add up the last 5 digits of your VIN so if you VIN ends 12345, you cycle round until it shows 15. you can then see the additional information.

Of note is one for testing the cluster itself where the whole screen will light up and all displays turned on and one of the test is for a dyno test. which turns off DSC.

Pictures below.(sorry only iPhone ones so quality not that great)

Other than changing the fuel consumption adjustment figure, I don't recall there being anything there you can mess up.

In a similiar vain, wondering how you get into the HUD diagnostics and Idrive hidden menus. Just curiousity really.

not done it myself but read something about this on the f10 so assume it is similar to that.

my understanding is that it is a correction factor that can be adjusted so the mpg the xar displays reflects the actual mpg. it is probably out slightly so if you work out by how much you can adjust this figure to ensure the car report a more accurate figure.

Maybe I'm dumb...

but I still dont see how to use the hidden menu. Specifically, I can initially call it up, but which button does one need to make selections/act like a mouse button?

You use the same button to make the changes

It’s a bit odd to use I agree!

You use the same button that opened the menu. It’s a finessed procedure of press or press & hold of the same button (odometer reset button or BC button on tip of turn indicator stalk).

There should be lots of videos on youtube that shows the procedure for multiple generations of BMWs. Although the cluster’s design has changed sine the E chassis models…the press & hold procedure hasn’t changed.

The instructions below are for the CBS reset procedure…but the hidden menu being discussed in this thread follows the same process of button presses & press/holds. A single press usually scrolls thru the menu. A press & hold selects a prompt then allows you to acess further info or “sets” the info if youre being asked a question.
