Visual Comparison of G30 5 Series vs. Arch Rival E-Class

And here's a look at how the all new 5 Series M Sport stacks up against its arch rival, the 2017 E-Class (in AMG Line).

Physically, here's how they compare:

G30 Length: 194.6 in
E-Class Length: 193.8 in

G30 Width: 73.5 in
E-Class Width: 72.9 in

G30 Height: 58.2 in

The E-class has a much more coherent design language. All lines and details add up and seem to belong together. Not so much on the G30.

The current Benz design language is the worst in history IMO. The Bentley/Rolls wannabe rear end is ostentatious and has zero sporty air to it. It fits the S-Klasse ok but that's it. The interior is equally ostentatious and off putting to me, though it does look more modern in some ways.

These comparisons are good and all, but really it's a matter of personal taste and choice. Some people love Mercedes designs. It's meant to be luxurious and appealing to older folks. If you factor what they're catering to and who their target demographic is, then they did a good job.

I like the elegant sportiness of bmw much more. To me it's a better design and interior miles ahead. But I also am the farthest from MB's target demographic, and much closer to BWW's.

From the back you can't see many differences between the E and the C.
The 5 has better tech. Untill you see one in flash is difficult to judge really well the design.

E class looks like slightly larger C class

5 series looks like slightly small 7 series

E class (all Mercedes new style) seems more bubbly while the BMWs seem more aggressive/squared. Personally I like the BMW look (which is probably why I own 2 of them).

really wish the new 5 wasn't so big, I would consider the M550i xdrive to replace my M3 in a few years as my kids get bigger and would love to have the xdrive, but its 10.7 inches longer than the 3 series! Its even longer than my wife's X6 (193.8)

3/4 7er vs 3/4 S Klasse. The W213 has more simple straightforward lines through the exterior and interior while the G30 has a lot more going on. The E Klasse is kinda more simple and elegant while the 5er is more techy and busy.

Look wise, too close to call for me, they both look really good, matter of personal preference.

For previous generation, 5 was drastically better, more fun car to drive.
For this generation, I like interior of E class better, even though I'm not a big fan of the gauges "flat" look. The rest of dashboard, console, screen, seats and door looks much more modern and just fit all together better. Benz has more sleek, smooth, modern look for me, G30 seems to be sticking with slight update of their current design + cheaper looking navigation screen than before.

Ooooooooo.. the are doing what Benz did to three series. Jus giving them a good ole spanking. The G30 says aggressive and serious with one look. Then in the other second it says refined taste and class... now they need to fix the x5 and the x6... I am so close to buying a GLE coupe 63 AMG..... some how I think BMW may redeem their self

I think the current Merc designs are way too similar between the models (Audi decease?)

I'm not a massive fan of the big cut out the G-M back has - Like the new 5 way better in non-M

The e class looks better in pictures. When you see it in person you will have a hell of a time differentiating from the c class. And when you do differentiate you will realize it's actually worse.

The g30 seems to be leaps ahead as far as looking more cohesive and more modern. Assuming it looks better in person as most bmws do

the E class is almost a carbon copy of the C class. I'd say the the 5 and the 7 are much different from each other the C and E are from each other.

E Class looks like a tired old mans car and that dashboard is downright hideous, looks like they put a shelf on top of a dash
