Certainly hope I am wrong but everything known so far about Apple's next iPhone says it will finally have wireless charging BUT Apple being Apple will make the wireless charging require an Apple certified charger with chip in it.

Question: Any chance that for the G30 BMW already ahead of time worked with Apple to have the Apple style certified wireless charging working?

Or are we stuck with the good/better 15 watt Qi 1.2 standard in BMW that won't charge an iPhone? Hope I'm wrong but knowing how bad Apple is for this stuff I'm betting they went with a custom chipped type of wireless charging to force us to buy chargers from them.

Anyone know more about the BMW wireless charging spec?

http://bgr.com/2017/08/28/iphone-8-v...ging-features/

If this is true you can either have an iPhone that works with CarPlay but no wireless charging or an Android that will wireless charge but NO Android Auto.

Thanks.

That would suck if true. And I couldn't even blame BMW - they put in wireless charging that was standard at the launch of the car and couldn't have known of Apple's plans.

As announced today, iPhone 8/X support the Qi charging standard. The picture in the keynote is of an 8 charging in the tray of our fabulous G30s.

Yeah - thought that was cool that they used the G30 as the demo for that in the Keynote.

I am honestly shocked. Not sure I'm so shocked with the $1319 price tag on that glorified emoji animatronic piece of eye candy though...

i can also confirm the 8 plus with case is a very nice fit inside the tray and does indeed charge without issue. my galaxy s8 would slide all over the place when i hit full throttle and would not charge with a case on it.

Don't worry. BMW's wireless charging system is standard "Qi" charging system (it is what Samsung phone using). The iPhone 8 and iPhone X also use the "Qi" standard so they can be charged wirelessly in BMW without any problem.

iPhone X works great in the wireless charge spot. Fits perfectly. Will the BMW be able to fast charge it, when Apple releases the software upgrade to enable it?

Anyone got any specs on the wireless charger in the G30? I drove for just over 2 hours today and the iPhone X went from 1% to 28%. I was on a phone call also for about 30mins but its very very slow.

I think my X charges quicker, but don't expect miracles, it's pretty slow... Might also be the position in which you put the phone, you need to place it in the middle.

Before X, I had S8+, that was a joke, 5-6% per hour.

I am surprised. I get 3-4 days easily on charge. And, I get 80% charge in 20 minutes on usb-C.

From my testing on the Bench, the wireless charger pulls about an AMP on my X. Not a huge amount. I haven't left it in there for more than a few minutes so it might ramp up after awhile. I'll log it tomorrow just for fun and report back..

i'll be very interested in this.

I'm about to spend $1600 on the iPhone X here in Seoul just so that I can use the wireless charging on my G30.. I currently use iphone 6S which is perfectly fine..

If wireless charging is crap anyways, I wouldn't buy it........

If Mike Benvo's post above about it doing 1 amp is correct then that is same charging speed as the small charger that comes with the phone. So NOT fast charging. Regular.

I think it might be correct. I tested it today after doing Apple's latest updated that enabled the fast charging. Did not see any difference than before, so maybe BMW can't do fast charging.

If I need a fast charge, still use my cigarette charger, which charges at 2.1 amps.
