MPPSK Insurance Extra Cost + REVIEW

I know it is very much down to circumstances and existing Insurance costs. But just wondering how much people were charged by their insurance companies for adding the MPPSK?

My insurance company wants another £95.00 on top of the original £470.00.
So around 20% increase.

I advised LV it was on the Car at purchase, so nothing to pay.

Did you speak with them directly?

Funnily enough when I was looking originally on Compare the Meerkat back in Sept 2017 when I was getting quotes, it actually listed both 340hp & 360hp 540i..... Now it only lists 540i.

Makes me wonder if BMW detuned it until the LCI model when 360hp straight off the bat.

My insurance was due when I got the new car, so I got a quote off the internet, then phoned them with the exact details, saying the MPPSK was fitted BEFORE pick-up.

LV is one of the most forgiving (cheapest) for car modifications

This is the problem. Reading the other forums for 340i MPPSK etc...it is all down to who you speak to and how you phrase what the mods are.

The person I spoke to just picked what they thought was most appropriate from a list. They admitted they were not sure what to put it to.

Anyway I keep checking my Remote View to see if my car is off the car lift yet at the dealers.

When I insured my car I listed out all of the options the car had . Unfortunately the people you speak to on the phone seem to know bigger all about cars and don't understand what these options actually are. One example was the adaptive headlights which they thought were "rally lights" .
Tried to explain but they are clueless.
Don't expect them to know everything but in their job they should have a good understanding of cars......

I don't understand why they can't just use the VIN to see all factory fitted options, it would make it much easier.

That's a very good point.

The whole insurance thing just never feels right. There is a conflict of interests here as we have to insure by law ( and rightly so to cover us and others) but the companies providing it are in it for a profit.

Yes it seems a bit of a lottery as to who you speak to.

In general there are 2 different modifications:
Those that add performance and therefore perceived risk to the insurer.
Those that add cost. (cosmetic)

I thought that is why we have insurance banding?

Why not just say it goes up a band if you add % amount of power.
and pro rata the cost of any modification against the total cost of the car?

Simples.....

They changed the Oils on mine as well as fitting all the gear. Never did a mile in it either, cars been bang on.

Yes. Might have to go up to Leeds/Bradford Airport and give it a blast underneath the runway.

It is the best place near me. Always done it in the past...........with my Volvo V70R, C63 AMG and M5.

As usual with my dealer I had to chase them.

Supposed to be ready yesterday. Chased them again this morning but they said the computer crashed when uploading the tune......so they say

Anyway ready now.

Will report back in a few hours.
