Question SW version S15A-22-3-520 not DME locked?

Ok so I’m totally confused. My B58 G30 is a 2018 but my software version shows as S15A-22-3-520 in BimmerCode, meaning March 2022, also meaning my car would require bench unlocking before I can flash it (or so I thought).

However, connecting my iPad to the car, MHD Flasher shows that no unlock is required and I was able to successfully flash the Bootmod3 maps I purchased by just trying to see if it would actually work. And it did.

I’m still waiting on my downpipe and TU pump to come in so I flashed Stage 1 91 octane for now. Shows I’m hitting around 400HP on the built-in sport gauges (which I’m sure is not accurate).

How was it possible for me to do this with 2022 software?

I was under the impression it's always been the manufacture date of the DME that determined if you needed to unlock not the date of your last software update.

Probably real close to 400 but not quite lol

Hmm, that's quite a mystery. Like you, I thought that all I-Steps released since late 2019 require a bench unlock in order to flash. The DME manufacture date is relevant only to whether you need a Femto unlock.

Did you buy the car used? If so, perhaps the previous owner had already unlocked it.

I bought it CPO coming off a lease. But I’ve maintained the car at the dealer myself since I got it in 2021 and they did the software update the last time I had it in.
