I just picked up my new M550i yesterday, and drove it ~200 miles. The start was rush hour, stop and go traffic coming out of Pittsburgh. The rest was highway cruising at 80-90, and there was more stop and go traffic due to construction for about 10 miles.

I averaged 25.8, which I'm fairly pleased with given the circumstances. I'll report back as I put more miles on the car.

I average like 22.. mostly split between comfort and sport individual. Sport individual I have set up basically like sport but regular tranny set up. I say about 60-70 percent Highway. Live by the jersey shore so when not on highway some roads still alow to do like 50mph. But I do do some city driving as well. I use sport plus once in a while to just get the speed out of my system. Regardless if I don't push the car all the time I know I have the speed and settings when need it. Love this car.

I'm at 17.8 right now, mostly city, winter driving, mostly in comfort mode due to the winter conditions so far. I'm not a particularly light-footed driver, and I've had the M550i for about six weeks.

I too mostly go from Comfort to Sport Individual. Mix of city and highway commuting, I am getting about 19-20 mph. After 1200 miles passed, I definitely punch it every chance I get.
Slightly better gas mileage than my 2015 S6.

Went on a 90 mile road trip on the freeway yesterday. Car only has 400 miles, but cruising at 82MPH (85MPH speedometer), I got 26mpg. Pretty impressive for an AWD V8 with 500+HP.

I've gotten 30 mpg on an all highway trip! It's always 28+ highway if I drive conservatively. And 20-22 in mixed driving. This is comfort mode with stop/start enabled.

Just did a 454 mile trip (95% freeway, 5% city). I drove 82MPH (85MPH speedometer). The computer showed 27.6MPG... however, when I filled up the car, and manually calculated the mileage, it was only 25.5MPG.

Does this mean the odometer is also reporting higher, thus putting more miles on the car than is real??

Speedometers are usually off on most vehicles, so your theory might be correct. Mine is off between 2 mph and 3 mph.

While not a M550, I thought I would note that we just finished a 3,500 mile trip to Florida with as fair amount of local driving (plus 140 miles local since) in the 540xi and averaged 28.5 mpg for the trip. I thought that was pretty good. Drove in Sport mode the whole way. Haven't really used it around town enough to know but I 'll guess it'll average in the low 20s. We'll see.--Bob

You should do a manual check on your next fill up and see how far off your MPG gauge really is. Mine is off by 2-3MPG (about 7%).

That would make perfect sense, the speedo is generally off between 2 mph and 3 mph on most vehicles.

Probably a good idea for more precise information. I am sure the mileage showing will be more favorable than reality. But I have to admit I have now gotten a bit lazy and will just enjoy the car and results it presents.--Bob

Ive got 16k on my M550xi. and i drive the S@#$. out of this thing. I think like most that got the M550I they wanted performance. At least thats what i wanted. but that also when driving conservatively she gets good MPGs. I would say when i go to N.C its about 400miles ill get 27mpg. but around home i am mostly in sport plus mode. shifter to the left in sport. and i have a piggyback tuner turned all the way up. and getting 17mpg. Now i always run 93 octane. The car runs the best on it. I can tell a difference between 92 and 93. I wouldn't think you could tell. but it does make a difference. maybe try a better quality fuel?

Now I'm over 18 MPG as the car probably breaking in as I approach 1500 miles.

I've been told the odometer is correct or at least more accurate than the speedometer. When calculated against mile markers, my speedometer is 3-4% off, 3 at 75 mph but the odometer is pretty close, even after 10 miles. The other side of MPG is the gallons. You need to make sure the fill up is the same. 1/2 gallon off can make the same difference.

I am sure the odometer is accurate. The governmental regulators would be all over BMW if it weren't.

I had my car coded and thought about coding the speedometer to be accurate (it can be done) but I opted not to as I like the security of keeping myself at a speed that won't normally incite a traffic cop. In my market you can go 9 miles over the speed limit and photo radar won't pick you up. So I set my cruise control for 10 or 11 miles over the limit.

I have compared speeds with my radar detector's GPS. Mine is consistently off by about 2 mph until I get to highway speed which is then off by about 3 mph. It makes sense that it would go up exponentially. That's physics.

Almost every car I have owned, even outside of BMW, it's consistently like this.

Just drove to NC, SC and back, along Interstate 85/10. Consistently, the car calculated my mileage around 31mpg, both ways. I was usually in ACC at around 75mph. The exception was in the NC mountains. On those twisties, where I grew up years ago, I was in Sport Plus, and the mileage dropped significantly! Imagine that! Love the M550i.

I know this is an old topic, but wanted to share my stats after driving from Florida to Ohio and back with my '21 m550i and Shell 93:

- First 3 hours in FL @ 80mph (flat roads) Eco mode cruise control: 31.5 mpg. Left early in the morning so there was no traffic.

- Remainder of the trip (mix of cruise & spirited driving: 27.3 mpg (approx. 2300 miles).

I get about the same MPG in this auto V8 as I did in a manual straight 6. The long 8th gear in eco pro is pretty good for milage.
