Not accurate. G05, G07 and G20 owners have been coding. Here's a little proof from a reliable remote coding service.

I actually like the larger grills, I always thought our cars had very small grills in terms of tallness compared to F10's. I can deal with another couple yrs
I love my car, it's a beast lookin forward to Dinan instal next week!

ok, so quite some changes in the interior.

So I'm wondering what they will foresee for the LCI update, which is not that far away.

New shifting lever with chrystal?
heated cup holders?
X5 and 3-series parking and driving assistance?

or? Am I hoping for too much?

2019s and prior don't have them. Are the 2020s supposed come with them?

Those were available in other vehicles with IDrive 7, the assumption was that the 5 series might get them. Personally I was really hoping for remote start and the digital key (via my phone). Back up assist was nothing something I cared about (much like cars with parallel park assist).

I understand 2019 and prior doesn't have it, but since 2020 come with iDrive 7 I would have thought they would lump that in as well, though I guess it's anyone's guess at this moment...

well bmw lumped in the 360 degree camera with parallel park, if I could only get 360 degree without auto parallel parking/perpendicular parking I would definitely do that...

Yeah, the whole industry does that. Sometimes it's just to simplify ordering, sometimes it's software that shares the same hardware, which I expect the 360 degree camera and auto parking options are.

Appears to me the 2020 iDrive7 implementation is iDrive7 lite.

No remote start option, no digital key. Even the OTA software update feature says its for maps upgrades. No mention of the type of upgrading BMW promises in the G05, G20, etc.. So, just not enough info to be sure....

The 540i seems to remain with the B58B30M0 engine for 2020. And for 2020 the torque figure is down to 331 (from 332 in the 2017-2019) at the same rpms. Maybe a typo. So, it seems the B58B30M1 with its torque bump won't make its debut in the 5 series until 2021 LCI.

**Park Assist Pkg for 2020 now says it supports perpendicular spaces and in the graphic I can see the reversing assistant button. So, seems these may be included for 2020 builds.**

aha in that case if I were them I would almost like "why bother", just wait until LCI and lump everything in for proper upgrade

However, illusion is half the battle. BMW needs to respond to Audi's new MMI system in the A6 and Mercedes newer command system. 90%+ of the 5 series buyers won't have a clue features are trimmed from the 2020 G30 iteration. Customers will simply hear about BMW's new iDrive 7 and assume it's awesome.

No more touch screens please!

BMW still gets the basic ergonomics right. Haptic touch screen feedback is no replacement for real knobs and buttons. Muscle memory makes using basic controls easy and less distracting.

The remote start option that is 'trimmed', does this refer to starting remotely from your phone? Or you mean there's literally no remote start at all?

The configurator is often wrong. And I don't think it ever shows every option available. Early in the model years I've seen several omissions on multiple models.

For me touchscreen can be useful, as in iDrive6. However I 100% agree that the mechanical controller is needed for the experience to be useful and not frustrating.

I drove a 2019 A6 and thought MMI was horrible. The haptics are worthless IMO unless there's one or two functions ber page. However when there's an LCD littered with virtual buttons haptics only tells me I did something. What I did I have no clue....

And voice is not the answer to everything so I hope BMW doesn't try to push 6 levels deep of voice commands.

Very true, but I'm hearing remote start isn't an option in the dealers ordering system for 2020 G30. So, we shall see.

It's not definitely was not an option when I ordered my M5. However, it's very possible it's not an option, but standard, though you'd assume they'd tout that if it were the case.

100% agree. My main complaint with the Volvo new design approach. All of the new (SPA) Volvo's use the same touch-screen infotainment screen controlling most of the basic car functions. Major pain to adjust A/C while driving, etc..

Yep, and they are not willing to fix it either. I just exchanged a couple of emails with BMW CS - trying to draw their attention to the discrepancies with the latest BMW ordering guide for G30 and current MY2020 online configurator. Refused to add M-steering wheel option for Sport line cars - claim it is now only available as part of the M-sport package. And extra-cost exterior colors can't be selected with Dakota or Nappa leather on Sport and Luxury trims - only M-sport (except Rhodonite).

Remote engine start is a $300 option on the 7 series. Why would you believe it's a standard feature on a 5 series or M5? Not happening, but wishful thinking.
