Remote Parking, signal interference

Last week I parked at a public car park, and when I returned, there was a big Volvo XC90 parking right next to mine. Despite there are other spaces available, that XC 90 decided it has to park right next to mine and leaving the gap too small to open the driver's door.

So I pull out the DisplayKey, tried to use the Remote Parking function to drive the car out. It started the engine fine, but when moving the car forward, the DisplayKey briefly shows some messages like "signal interference ..." (don't remember the exact wording). After trying a few times, finally the car is out with the Remote Parking function. I got in the car and drove away with no further drama.

It doesn't look like the car/key authentication was having a problem there. It feels like the receiver of Remote Parking is not receiving the continous signal well enough. Which signal frequency does the DisplayKey communicate to the car and where is the receiver? What could it be that interfered to the signal?

If you pull the battery out of the key or look around on it somewhere (or in iDrive somewhere) it should note what radio frequency the key uses as the FCC requires that information to be placed on devices that use radio waves.

The interference could have been from any number of things in a dense urban environment.

The best position for the strongest signal is at the rear of the car by the boot where the remote parking antenna is. If you have a poor signal, stand by the boot.

How do you pull the battery out of a display key? It seems to be sealed.

Thank you, I will remember that. In that particular time, I couldn't get to the back of the car either. That family of 5 of that Volvo xc90 turned up, right after I got in the car!

One thing to bear in mind is whether your key has plenty of battery left. I have noticed that when the key needs charging, it tends to throw errors more frequently.
