Will I get an CEL if I get a 200 cell sports cat installed?

If EML means CEL, then yes you will get one with a Sports cat. If you have a tune you can mask the CEL but depending on where you live you may or may not pass a state inspection.

Really depends on what brand catted downpipe you purchased.

I believe that the 400-cell Active Autowerke downpipe does not throw a CEL. Some have had a CEL with a 300-cell downpipe while others have not. The question was specifically about a 200-cell downpipe, which I would expect would almost always throw a CEL. But others in this forum are more knowledgeable than I am on this.

Gotcha! Yes it will cause a cel unless you run a tune.

I spoke with someone from mad downpipes and they gave me a source for an 02 spacer that can be installed on there catted downpipe and it’s suppose to not show a cel

Hi Bud,

I have fitted a VRSF sports cat to my G31 540ix

I also fitted a right angle spacer which cost me £15.

My CEL has triggered 3 times over the last 7000 miles. I have cleared it and been fine each time.

I am talking to Tom Wrigley about a tune but I am replacing the fuel pump and spark plugs before that.

if you go with another brand, it will trigger the CEL

Like a member posted above with the correct sized spacer our 200 cel will not throw a cel light. However the preferred method is through a ecu flash.

Keep in mind the CEL won’t do anything. I personally only care about the light because im under warranty and if bmw sees any codes they can use the excuse to not fix something. Otherwise I would not care!

Just an update I didnt get any lights on dash after the 200 cell install, also I have MHD installed (stock stage 0) maybe the reason.
