JB4 install time? how long ?

I’m twin with the idea of getting the J before piggyback so I can install it and uninstall it before I go in for service hoping that the dealership would not know it’s there.

I’m still under extended CPO for another two years.

I’m sure the first time I install this it will take time but once you’ve done it, how long will it take me to uninstall it and remove from the car?

Everything I’ve read it implies that it would be relatively difficult for the shop to detect it was there if I took it off before it went in for service. Obviously if I blew my motor and they really checked, maybe they would find some evidence of it, but I think it would be your safest bet versus a full-blown flash tune ??

For a reasonably handy person how long would it take to install? Then uninstall?

I have heard that even with a piggy back they can see it still. I also am under warranty and wanted to get a jb4.

There’s a new company that posted in the forums that has a tool that you can back up your dme when it’s stock and if you tune and go in for service you just uninstall the tune and then download the stock DME software. Some technical shit lol

Here is the thread describing that tool. You have to use it to back up the DME before installing JB4 or tuning the DME.

Takes about 15-20 minutes once you’ve done it and know where the connectors are. It’s relatively simple.

I just read those threads on the MIssion tuning tool.

So this tool would effectively let you unlock your DME at home. Then you can backup your DME and it saves it. Then you tune, and the next time you go in for dealer service - you just uplaod your old stock flash?

It would be kind of a PITA to unlock, backup, install a tune..and then have to “undo / redo” every time you go in for service..but assumign that is only once in a while…and you an plan ahead… once you get the process nailed down - how long woudl it take? 30 min each time?

This woudl seem perhaps easier than installing a JB4 and installing / uninstalling that every time…??

I have a 2018 M550i so I assume i am good to go to self unlock via this tool.

If you later did an XHP trans tune - would it also cover your or this?

Your first time it will take 1-2 hours.

After that, you can do it in 30 minutes or less

First time it took me 20 minutes. Half of that time was spent trying to snake the wire through the firewall lol.

Does this mission tuning device actually allow me to completely hide a tune from the dealer?

I have a 2018 so sounds like a tool will work and I have never flashed my car so if I backed it up and then flashed it I would then re-upload the original flash when I took it in for service??

I believe that's what they claim. Just be sure to get the "super" license.
