Resonator Delete Question - possible vibration at 3k rpm

I did the resonator delete on my 2018 M550.

At idle..it sounds great. Very deep and throaty.

the only issue i have noticed is that while driving - at heavy load / mostly full throttle, at about 2500-3000 rpm, the car makes this annoying noise that sounds to me like something is vibrating…as soon as I pass 3k rpm it’s gone.

It’s not a droning noise… but i am starting to wonder if this is some of the resonation that BMW tuned OUT of the system with the resonators?

Does anyone get a noise like this between 2000-3000 rpm? It only happens under load..if I am in park and just revving up - it sounds GREAT… not a touch of this noise I am describing. It only happens when the car is under load / in gear ‘ actually driving. It usually will not occur at partial throttle, you need to be on the gas fairly hard at LOW rpm, passing between 2000/2500-3000. And you REALLY hear it. Almost to me like a farting noise…. It does not sound good.

maybe it’s something vibrating..

I an try to get a sound clip if no one has any clue what I am talking about.

Xpipe or straight pipe?
I had straight pipe first but changed to x pipe as the noise was bad at 3-3.5K rpm

I just had a muffler shop put in straight pipes that replaced the OEM resonators..but they do not appear to be pipes..meaning each pipe is totally separate from each other.

It sounds GREAT 90% of the time..but right at 3k rpm is makes this almost farting noise that is super obnoxious..

Woudl this be remedied by putting in an X pipe? I could buy the Dinan one but it’s $$. Can a muffler shop just modify what I have and hav ethe pipes meet in the middle and merge??

Did changing to the Xpipe get rid of that sound? I assume you had the same sound… and know what I”m talking about?

What kind of X pipe did you do? Prefab one like Dinan or did you just have it homemade?

I went straight to x-pipe. Res delete and x-pipe (stainless) was $200USD. It’s a pipe no need for a fancy brand.

I had my resonator delete done and the shop did NOT do an X pipe. That was the problem. I went back and had them add the X pipe in the middle and it took away the nasty farting sound at 3k. it did get quieter and less loud..but sounds similar. Overall much better.

Just do it, but don't use sports mode with her in the car. She will never know.
