Dude, I can’t believe you’re not a member for a variety of reasons. You would have gotten $1,000 in rebates for the M550 and X7. You get discounts on parts from dealers as well, like all season mats for example. You would love reading Roundel.

Did the resonator delete yesterday. I have to say I am pleasantly surprised. Total damage was $350. Took like an hour for my local shop to remove both the resonators and install straight pipes in its place.

I have to say I wasn't expecting such a significant uptick in sound, especially after reading some posts about how little difference it made. The sound in SPORT mode is right on the border of what I would call obnoxious. So that was reliving for me. In comfort there is little to no difference in the cabin with windows closed. And I'm super happy that I still get to be able to turn on/off using comfort and sport settings. OH, and no drone that was my primary concern.

Below are some pics of the before and after.

I did that and rolled with it about a year. It’s great bang for the buck. If you get ready to up the investment, I added Dinan muffler this year and it’s fantastic. It makes the sound more linear and natural sounding.

They did a good job. $350 is about right for a quality job.

So you added the Dinan muffler without adding the resonators back right ?
I do have the piece that was removed just in case I ever need to put it back.

Yeah I'm still thinking about going that route, really want to get the round tips. This guy who did the work did say he could add them by just cutting off the current ones and welding those on. Not sure if that's even doable as I've read some posts here where it's not advisable.

I'm assuming you got this one, will keep an eye out for it during black friday to see if I can get any deals on it. Are you still able to control the valves using comfort/sport settings ?

Thanks again to every1 here, the amount of invaluable info ... great help in making my decision.

You will never add the resonators back in. You either bolt on the Dinan axle back to what you have now or you do the full Dinan cat back with the X pipe which is effectively a pretty $1,200 resonator delete that adds a few ponies.

I did everything, including the valve remote. The remote overrides the car. So open, means open in any mode all the time, even on restart.

You did what I did. The bad news is the way the shops cut them out for both of us. It will be extremely difficult to ever weld it back and they didn’t leave enough pipe to clamp it. Go look at the OEM schematic for the exhaust system and replacement parts. It should’ve been cut off at the cats and muffler. You and I basically short cutter it, which is why it’s so cheap, but it makes it hard to undo cheaply.

Yes, I added that Dinan axle back with my existing welded straight pipe. And I love it. The folks at Dinan even said any noticeable difference in going back with their mid pipe would be negligible. Wasn’t worth $1,200 plus labor, to me.

My valves are still there. I did not add the remote but if I keep the car next year, I will.

I wouldn’t weld on tips. If anything, I’d look for clamp on options.

I’m really happy with what I’ve done.

Wow, what a difference those tips make. A bit curious as to why you would want the remote ? Currently you have the option of controlling the valve using comfort/sport; or you can even code it and keep it open at all times. What does the remote get you ?

Sport doesn’t automatically open them. Sport Plus might. But I’ve read over and over (don’t have references handy) that just going to Sport doesn’t automatically do it. It’s about how hard you’re pressing it.

The remote would also allow you to open in in comfort, if you wanted to.

I don’t know of an easy way to code the valves. It’s not on easy mode of Bimmercode. But I do (usually) have mine coded to start in Sport Standard mode. I’ve played with it a lot and I like Sport Standard the best for daily driving.

So I bought my new to me M550i yesterday and a car hit it in a parking lot the same day

Any ideas how to fix? I have their insurance but wanna fix myself to avoid a carfax ding because honestly the damage isn't too too bad. I want to file just cause they pissed me off. they managed to hit me when I had 10 parking spaces open next to me and a curb on the other side. You had to try to actually hit me and they managed it.

sand -> touch up paint multiple layers -> clear coat -> sand for the deep scratches I'm hoping will work.

You might check with a high quality detail shop. They might be able to make it all but disappear without a full repaint. I recently had a good detail shop remove some Xpel PPF from the nose of my Corvette Z06 after 8 years (they had installed it) due to a number of chips and tears that I feared all went through to the paint. Turned out that only one actually went through; the Xpel did its job for the most part. I had some touch up paint and the shop touched it up and polished it out so it is all but invisible, all for $120 including PPF removal. But also a good body shop might have some ideas for you. --Bob

I’ve seen a good detailer make things disappear. My buddy side swiped his garage (well, his wife did) with his black Mercedes GLS 550 and our detailer made it disappear.

Had the G05 in for service yesterday and noted the grinding steering column gears on up/down. NGT2 called it, they just greased it per the attached SIB. We will see, haven't had the issue on the G30 yet.

I’m pretty educated on this one, at this point 😂

Since you don’t use the G30 daily and it isn’t used for several months of the year, you may never wear that part out.

YIKES!!!! I hope I don't see a $2K+ bill for a column replacement! I still need tires for the F10 & G30!

Today I picked up my M550i after several weeks!! So glad to have it back. A quick cellphone pic attached.

I do have to say though that I developed a new found appreciation for the X3 30i in the meantime after driving it as my DD for weeks while my car was being repaired.
