Not impressed, I can only imagine what the 2021 M5 is going to look like, have my eyes on a 2020 model while they are still available.

Shocked the 540 didn't get the updated power figures. Sad.

Very very disappointed about the update! No real technical highlights: the 530i still trails the 330i in torque and by a stretch. Also the 540i didn't receive an update while the 368 ft lb version is many years available. It's all in the tiny semi-hybrid engine while mercedes demonstrates much more grinta these days with their E W213 LCI. I'am really fed up with those guys at Munich. I mean really!

Looks nice. My only gripe is the live cockpit professional. In the G20 330i I saw it had digital analog-style gauges, I think BMW should go that route instead

Also I find it crazy that a 335hp 6-cylinder ~4000lb sedan sedan can do 60 in 4.6 secs - that B58 is truly a work of art!

Not bad all kitted up, and ugh missing the Touring in the USA but the new grey looks fetching.

Overall, I think it isn't bad. It is definitely giving me grown-up G20 vibes rather than grown up F10 vibes for the pre-LCI. Still think I prefer the old one overall.

However, two observations I find very interesting.

1. I think this is the first time I've seen the 530e associated with performance and the 540i associated with luxury. I believe the placement of the MSport 530e vs. the Luxury Line 540i is most deliberate and a view of the direction they are taking performance. The absence of the M550i in pictures makes me think this is their way of de-emphasizing traditional ICE performance. We've all heard some of the dark rumors regarding the future of the N63...

2. Look at the two engines BMW provided us (B58?). Although they seem to be the same, the first one has an MPerformance decal on it and the second does not. Both have the traditional 6 stripes usually indicating an inline-6...

Nice refresh.

Interior looks unchanged, but nothing really to improve on.

I don’t get it. The old headlights are so clearly better to me. The black surround on the taillights is just odd. I mean it’s a good looking car but I don’t see how it’s better than what it’s replacing.

Beautiful! One of the last V8 sedan made by BMW.

The M550i is sure a blast to drive!

Not vibing with me. Pre-LCI looks boss and classy. The lower front bumper looks like the new 7. To most noon enthusiast, the LCI 5 looks like the LCI 7. only difference is the large kidneys on the 7

ugh. I also hate when drl are combined with turn signals. so prefer the eyelash turn signal

Can someone explain to me why the mild hybridization is necessary? Is this to compete with MB?

Why not make it optional?

Is there really no more tuning that can be done with valve lift, valve timing, exhaust geometry, turbo vanes, etc to smooth out power delivery and efficiency?

I like it. Like the tech upgrades, particularly remote start.

Are the pics above the 845 wheels?

Agreed 100%. I think pre-LCI looks better but at least the ugly grilles didn't make its way over.

Not shocking. M Performance spec is for top of range only. With the 5 series, you need to step up to the V8 for that...

That's what I was hopeful for... That new gray color with red seats. Why can't they make that happen? We always get the same 3 interior color options.

It's funny how every refresh people complain about the same thing... grill is hideous, car is too big, the gauges are awful, too much weight, not enough power, engine sucks, etc.

Yet it comes out, and everyone buys it, and BMW has record sales. If it was so hideous then their sales would tank, year after year...

It's funny how someone always points out that someone else always complains. Actually, you know what? I have a theory that the people who love BMWs for the reasons that made them popular in the first place are moving on. The more BMW ditches their heritage, the less you will see those sales grow. I think we're just in a lag and the brand loyalty won't hold them over much longer.

Absolutely hideous. Grille is too big and gross, the headlights look like absolutely everything, and something is just wrong with the bulbous proportions. The 5 series used to look serious, now it looks outlandish. Honestly hope nobody buys this. A Hyundai would cost less and look better.

This just doesn't look like a BMW.

Looks great. but very disappointed the LCI 530i doesn't get the upgraded B48 engine that been available in both the 330i and the pre-LCI 630i GT since launch. At 248 hp/258 ft-lbs (185 kW/350 Nm) it appears to be the same unchanged engine as apposed to the 255 hp/295 ft-lbs (190 Kw/400Nm) in the 3 Series and 6 GT.

I can live in hope that this is just a US-spec.

Tony

People change, tastes change, design language changes. It's obvious from everything around us. To expect a company to provide the same design year after year to satisfy the "purists" completely misses the point that this is a company that needs to have profits... hence adapt to the "want" of either their current segment group and/or incoming segment group.

My point is that this conversation will be had again in 3 years, with people saying how that current model is hideous, and how the LCI G30 was such a nice looking car...

Such is evolution...
