Good call, I didn't want to say it, but others did with backhanded good natured jabs, so I will now say it, that color is for chicks! ;-)

I would compare that $52K buyout to what the car is actually worth today. That's step 1.

Step 2 is to borrow the 850i for a day or two to see what you really think. A convertible is sweet, but the rear visibility really sucks when the top is up.

I borrowed an M850i convertible for a day a few years ago, when they had way too many from the launch and were giving them away. I was looking at a nearly $30K discount on a base car, but even with that, I couldn't stomach what I perceived to be a really bad depreciation curve, and along with being far underwater on my 540i lease, it just didn't happen.

Agreed. As part of step 1 however it needs to be compared with a new car. That $52K seem high, but the new car will drop 10% or more driving off the lot. The old car took its main depreciation hit years ago and the previous owner is a trusted source ;-)

My dealer called me yesterday to tell me that while the MF stayed the same for May, there are no further incentives (not even $500 for USAA, etc.), AND the residual on the 2022 M850s just got lowered by 1%.

In addition, the market today means very little discount off of MSRP. So risk factor went up a bit by deciding to wait until Sept...

Stepping in here as I was curious what you ended up doing. Feel a bit out of place in here as I don't have a 5er, lol. Well since someone did eventually say it, the one you were contemplating is a chick color. It's good you're going to go with a custom build in a color that you truly want, not what's convenient. Just my 2 cents AGAIN!

FYI most of what you listed actually appears to be standard on the M850. Integral active steering, active m suspension professional and soft-close doors all don’t require any options or packages.

You are correct and I was mistaken.

Even though I let my dealer know that I wanted to wait until they got a build slot, they are keeping the option open for me all this month (May).

As I mentioned before, the residual dropped by 1% therefore raising the monthly lease payment, but because I had completed the BMW credit app I am locked in at the prior residual....oh, and did I mention they are making me a really good deal? So, while the door is mostly closed, it still is open a tiny crack....

EDIT: I am seeing on LeaseHackr that there may be a good program opening up in June on the 8 series!

What is a chick color? One you don't think is manly enough?

Very pretty. Are you going to get some pink fuzzy dice and a "Soccer Mom" bumper sticker

Just giving you shit, that is a nice looking ride! Definitely more luxury than sporty. Enjoy the breeze!

LOL. I will say, Barcelona Blue is one of those colors that changes appearance a lot depending on lighting, and the color has really grown on me. And the cognac interior really surprised me with the luxurious color, especially contrasting with the black.

Speaking of sporty though - the sound of the V8 in Sport mode with the top down makes the Bowers & Wilkins stereo a complete waste of money. I will probably never listen to music with the top down. That engine exhaust roars, burbles and crackles like a demon!

All kidding aside, cognac interior is the best and looks really good with the ragtop down. I wish they offered it on the 550 in Nappa. I think a some better pics in low level light will show off the exterior color more. Congrats.
