Gestures??

I have been waving my hands around, spinning my fingers, spreading them, etc. and nothing happens. What is the trick with gestures? Maybe my car does not have gesture functionality? I see no reference to it in iDrive? But the manual covers it. Part of a package I don't have?

It's part of the premium or executive packages. If you have one of those packages and you aren't activating gesture control — then it must be turned off in iDrive. Unless you've had your car for only 5 miles... you'll know you have gesture control because you will inadvertently turn the radio on and off at least 10 times within your first few hundred miles. 😀

Thank you. I have luxury package and don't have the ones you referenced. I did look for the camera in the overhead console and it's not there. I have the text pad thing on the I drive controller.

It's fine, just reading the manual from cover to cover and caught this.

Sorry that it turns out you don't have the packages for Gesture Control, but I would bet the the guy sitting behind you at the light got a heck of a laugh at your trying to get it to work! --Bob

. For sure. It seems kind of hoakey anyway.

I wonder if Gesture Control is a feature that will quietly just go away?

I find myself using the two finger gesture as my primary way of skipping tracks- probably up to 99% reliability in triggering and very useful given no dedicated single press skip on the wheel.

The most satisfying gesture is definitely the 'brush off' to ignore a phone call. As Jakub would say 'feels so good.'

I actually use the volume control gesture quite a bit and have used the "ignore incoming call" swipe gesture; just something satisfying about waving off an unwanted call.

If I had it, that is exactly what I would use it for. I find it hard to believe BMW doesn't put a track skip on the steering wheel. So now I either highlight the forward button with apple carplay and press the idrive controller or hit the dash button.

Yup, I should have mention that too. Unfortunately it takes three presses to skip a track. Press the wheel, scroll down, press the wheel. Most cars have back and next dedicated buttons on the steering wheel.

I think you can use the arrow buttons on the far right side for skipping tracks. I'm not sure though. Can anyone confirm that for me?

Confirmed. The arrows on right side of the steering wheel work for skipping tracks.

Yes, I mentioned those as well a few posts up when I said the buttons on the dash. These two buttons would be great on the steering wheel. Not a huge deal, but I miss this. Have them on my E39 and almost every BMW I've had. E65, E38. I'm pretty sure my F10 and E32 as well. Definitely no buttons on the E30.

It would be cool if you could configure the volume buttons to the track buttons. I think I would still prefer the volume buttons though.

They may be referring to the right arrow on the ID7Lite/LCI steering wheels.

My rosary hanging off the mirror doesn't play nice with the gesture controls. Jesus started turning the display on and off, changing tracks, etc. It got annoying quick, I had to get rid of him.

I enjoy gesture control. The swipe to answer and ignore, the two finger skip, and the volume up and down work well for me. I wish it customizable in terms of adding new gestures. I'd love to see a fist added to mute and and five fingers to switch to a different media.

I have the feature but the only hand gesture I use is the one finger salute and that is done under the dash.

It's really interesting that gesture control is a one off stand alone option and a cheap one at that. Doesn't seem worthy of that. Would think it would just be part of a package. My car was ordered by the prior owner and interestingly enough he left this out while adding some rarely seen stuff like Digital Cluster, Leather Dash and Alcantara Headliner. Gesture control is like $190 bucks, a bargain by BMW standards.

I love the finger point to answer a phone call, or the hand swipe to dismiss one. Those are the only gestures I use which the car recognizes.......just sayin'
