Gesture control is like $190 bucks, a bargain by BMW standards.
I feel your pain on this. My car came pretty well loaded where I have the Bowers and Wilkins, executive package, adaptive cruise, and night vision but I don't have the digital 6wb cluster that was a $300 option. At that point what was another $300?!

Exactly, I have all those options as well, but I guess if I had to choose, I'm glad I have the 6WB cluster over gestures. I also can't believe BMW only charged $300 for it.

Yeah, I was dumb with my build and disregarded the heated steering wheel/backseat option. My early morning drive is annoying for that one week in the year it gets cold enough to use.

My car is fully loaded, including gestures, but I never use the gestures. I would prioritize the leather dash over gestures, especially if you have Nappa upholstery.

Do they even offer the leather dash with Dakota? I would think a Dakota dash would look and feel like a non-leather dash because it's such a hard vinyl like leather.

I feel you bro.

But we all have our breaking points and the priorities will vary by who is doing the ordering. For me, my priorities on my build were safety and comfort for front seat passengers only since I'm married with no kids (just pups).

I left out stuff that would seem pretty "uh why?" to someone with them. Like the rear heated seats that were only $250 got axed as I saw zero need for them. I also skipped Ceramic Controls as I saw them as looking nicer, but otherwise useless. I also skipped leather and Sensatec dash so I have Nappa Leather with the base dash material. I sit in my seats not on my dash . So I have a fairly highly optioned car missing certain things you'd probably expect at the level of optioning I did do.

Some people really don't like the digital cluster or the gestures so you'll see them skipped for similar reason to why I skipped those rear heated seats.

When I ordered in MY2020 you had the following options:

Base Dash (rubber)
Sensatec Dash (probably a good fit for Dakota)
Full Leather Dash (Nappa or Merino depending on other leather optioned in the car)

I think now with the LCI though Full Leather is gone and you're only left with the first two options.

All goods points which really begs to the argument that configuring a car is subjective. When you are the second owner (me) and it has some options I might not have ordered, it's a bonus.

I will say, this is my first of many bimmers with a leather dash and no, I don't sit on it, but it sure adds to an already luxurious interior. Same for ceramic controls (although this is always on my list), they just feel SO much better than plastic. Although my rear seats are occupied maybe 5 times a year, having them heated is a nice touch for passengers for pretty short money.

Yeah it is very subjective. On the secondary market the cost of options are next to nothing as well so you end up getting a lot more bang for your buck with the first owner eating the painful parts of the curve. I agree that the leather dash and ceramic controls make the car more luxurious as I've been in a few loaners and test drives before buying with these features. I'm just an odd ball and am less concerned with the visual luxuries overall and prioritize other comforts like the seats. I also had longevity concerns on the leather dash since my car is street parked and I intend to own it 7 years. Still not sure how I'd condition leather around the HUD cut out, for instance.

Since the resale value on options are next to nothing I didn't focus on anything other than what I preferred on the build.

I found that when I was a passenger, it was easier to use the gestures because I do not have to reach all the way to the side to get to the volume knob.

I was dismissive of the gestures at first. But they've grown on me.

If there was a simple leather dash retrofit option, I'd jump on it - it looks very luxurious

The most satisfying gesture is definitely the 'brush off' to ignore a phone call. As Jakub would say 'feels so good.'
The two-finger pointing is about the only useful gesture, since BMW neglected to include the next-track button on the steering wheel, unlike all the other makes. The scroll wheel/select is a two-step process that is far less useful than next or previous buttons.

I have a next track button on my steering wheel. I have a left and right arrow directly next to the scroll wheel that does this.

previous/neck track buttons were added with ID7. ID5/6 owners are OOL-a major oversight in my opinion.

I don't have next track arrows on my steering wheel. I have microphone and telephone buttons under the scroll wheel thingy. I like the gestures and use them to skip songs and control the volume. I would use them more if there were more of them. i.e. Pause song.

Also, I have the leather dash and it looks great, especially compared to a non-leather dash. I like that it covers the tops of the doors too. I don't have the Nappa leather option but the dash and doors are still the upgraded leather.

Yup, the Nappa on the door card trim is really a nice touch vs, hard plastic.

I found the volume control doesn't work as well (2019 car, like you're not sure when it engaged already and you turn up the volume up too much) but the I self assigned mute is pretty much 100% right all the time

On my 2018 M550i ID6 with HUD set to standard it is possible to scroll between tracks with the right scroll button on the steering wheel. If the HUD display is set up it pops up in the HUD when scrolling then disappears after the choice is made. Does not show up anywhere else when using the scroll button that I can find.

Yes, I am aware the scroll wheel lets you choose other tracks, but then you have to press the wheel to select the track, making it a two-step process. Majority of the time, I just want to skip to the next track on the list.

When you scroll, the list appears either in the HUD or in the tach area, depending on how you set up the HUD/instrument. It also shows up on the iDrive screen, of course, but the direction of scrolling is opposite, go figure.

I'm certain we will see updates to this on future iterations of the 5 series (not sold on seeing a software update to ID6 to enable more gestures). However, I was looking at some reviews of the new X6M and M850 and saw they expanded the gestures.

You still have the finger rotation for volume toggling, the two finger aim now mutes the sound, and you can use thumbs left or right to answer in addition to swipe left and right to answer/decline calls. I see expanded capabilities for this and really enjoy gesture control.

So the only gesture I can get to work, is the customizable one.
I tried resetting idrive.
Any other suggestions. ?
It's prolly something I might not use but I just got the car and it just bugs me when something doesn't work. Hehe
