Loaner Vehicle Policy?

So I'm going on a trip to Vegas next week for a festival and was looking into rental cars until I saw a loaner car on the freeway and it clicked.

What if I drop my car off at the dealership and got a loaner instead?

Is anyone familiar with the loaner policy as to how far you can drive it or how long you can use a loaner? The longest I had a loaner was for 5 days and I drove 60-70 miles a day on it and they didn't mention anything when I returned it.

Any insight would be appreciated. I would love to hit the road with my car, but I'm right around the mileage where it seems most water pumps start to fail.

Dealerships in the bay area are strict at 75 miles per day and charge .20 per mile over and you are responsible for fuel. If your need service and they say it will take only 1 day , you'll have to return the loaner the same day
They kept my M3 for the 1200 service from 9am till 5pm and I had to return the shitbox loaner that same day
Probably cheaper to just rent an econo Hyundai for your trip

What's the point of owning a car if you don't drive it? Take your own car to Vegas and have some fun! I haven't gotten a loaner for the BMW since I use an Indy shop, but FWIW the contract on my Audi loaners all say 100 miles per day. I'm sure the mileage limit varies from dealer to dealer.

I would need to dig up some old documents from Irvine BMW, but Vegas is too far away. I don't remember the specifics, but they will have a maximum daily mileage and maximum radius you are allowed to travel. I believe it was in the 60 - 75 mileage range because I was thinking San Diego would have been questionable. Plus, as someone mentioned earlier they have language in there that stipulates you are charged overage if you do not pick up your car after 2hrs of being notified your car is done.

Which Bay Area dealer was this? The times I've gotten loaners, they give me 24hrs to return the car after they call me.

My local $tealers offer 75 miles a day but the car can be returned the following day after the car is ready. Regardless, why not replace the water pump before the trip and how many miles on your car?

Why are you assuming your water pumps going to go out? The fact that your saying that makes me feel like you want it to go out.. Why do people assume that an issue is going to occur on their car before it does? It's like asking for problems.

Lol, why the hell would I want my water pump to go out? My sister in laws water pump on her E90 died on the way to Vegas and it was extremely shitty. If you're superstitious then yeah, I guess I could see where you're coming from. If I can avoid putting myself in a certain situation then I'd rather save myself the time, stress, and money if I get stuck 200 miles out in the middle of nowhere.

That sucks man... But what I'm trying to say is that every single car is different, maybe your car is much more reliable then hers.

This right here is what's wrong with the world these days. You're trying to scam the dealership in to giving you a loaner so you don't have to pay for the rental car or use your own car? This is unbelievable

Yikes

My 2 cents would be if you don't want to take your car for whatever reason, rent one or fly.

I ended up finding out one of my co-worker's family members works at Enterprise, so I'll definitely be driving. Flying is stressful.

True. So far, so good. I'm honestly starting to consider the option of taking my car. That would be amazing.

No such limits on the loaners at my dealership, no credit card holds or any other shenanigans, just sign and drive. Maybe the CA dealers have seen too much abuse of their loaners in the past? I treat my loaners as if they were my car, maybe even better.

To speak to the abuse in California. I noticed on my last loaner sign out they had a line spelling out that you are not allowed to remove the loaner stickers on the back. I asked the guy checking me out and said they have had that issue before.

I do not understand why anyone one would remove it.

If someone saw me driving a 320i I would want to make sure they knew it wasn't mine....

Same here, no BS. They put a new exhaust on mine, took three days, returned the loaner after 500-ish miles with slightly more gas than I picked it up with - but the SA never mentioned miles or gas before I left.

How do you know the mechanic or SA wouldn't take your car to Vegas while you take the loaner?
