Display key dead
So I haven't used the display key for a few weeks, and upon trying it a few days ago I noticed it was completely dead.
I charged it for the recommended 3 hours, but still nothing. Took the car to the dealers yesterday, and after a few hours they phoned me to say the batteries inside the key has expanded, or something to that effect. They have now contacted the factory, to see if the key or just the batteries will be replaced. Anybody here had the same issues? |

Funnily enough yes.
I don't use mine , it sits in the cupboard unloved but i do keep it charged up from time to time using the wireless charging tray. Upon looking at it recently , despite charging it, I'm not able to get it to power on. Completely dead. Haven't looked into much but it would appear I'm perhaps not the only one. Just want it to work really just as a spare and when I come to trade it in , just would be nice to be able include it. ( still have the plastic cellphone covering it!) |

Good to know, will let my dealer know this is not an isolated occurrence.

I would demand a replacement. Expanding batteries could possibly damage the rest of the key. I've had an expanding battery on an older MacBook Pro and the battery cover had to replaced it too due to the warping that was created.

So after a lot of communications between me, the dealer and the factory, the key is finally getting replaced.
Initially the factory wanted to replace the batteries only. Then they realised there was no part number for it. After another 2 weeks they finally called me to bring the car in, to de-register the key, and then ordered a new one. Should be here within 2 weeks. I have to give a shout out to the salesman I bought the car from. He was the driving force behind the scenes, and eventually got the factory to agree to replace the key. |
