G30 M550 NA model. Latest iDrive software.

Not a big fan of using apple's CarPlay. Waze still does not give voice notifications when running in the background (via Bluetooth voice notifications work); visual notifications seem to not refresh as fast as when displayed on iPhone X display. Do you guys have same issues?

When streaming via Bluetooth YouTube music or podcasts, every time it is paused, the song or podcast starts from the beginning. Any way to make it pause for real?

Thanks

I have a "19" and kinda hate CarPlay(wireless) because I'm so use to using the phone(iphone MAX). But with waze it's on point with travel n refresh rate. I only have notifications on NOT voice guidance with waze. It works. Getting use to CarPlay isn't fun, I find myself keeping Bluetooth on

My wife has a "19" Lincoln MKC and her waze is slow n car icon isn't even centered. Weird

I want to give CarPlay "another chance " but do not want Waze to be part of it for reasons described above.
I removed Waze from both CarPlay and Uconnect so it is not displayed on my iDrive. However, when I click on Waze on the iPhone, it still displays Waze map on the iDrive.
I tried the same with Google maps app to see if it a bug related to Waze only, but the same thing happened as with Waze.
Any suggestions?

The podcast one is really annoying! Anytime someone calls me in the car, the podcast pauses and then starts from the beginning again when I finish the call.

This only happens to me when I am not using CarPlay... for both podcasts and YouTube music streaming. That is why I wanted to switch to carplay but need to get rid of the Waze-CarPlay connection.

Has anybody seen any improvements in Waze and CarPlay lately?
I still do not get any voice notifications via Waze when it is running in the background via CarPlay.
Also, I am wondering how accurate/refreshed the reported notifications that are displayed on the iDrive?
I love the fact that CarPlay keeps track of location of podcasts when they are posed vs always loosing it when connected via Bluetooth.
But not getting voice notifications from Waze makes me feel "naked." I guess I need to slow down or no laser diffusers will save me.

The crowd-sourced routes are what makes Waze superior. Real-time traffic, accidents, road hazards and yes, police notifications keep many on Waze regardless of its absence from the BMW HUD.

My car does all of that minus the police notifications, but I get that through Escort Live.

While a nice built-in Nav system, not so sure the BMW Nav does crowd-sourced route and roadside alerting. It's never asked me to confirm anything on route. Never been alerted to a someone on side of the road with the Nav. Waze is definitely more up to date on traffic, largely due to driver input.

I get warnings for lane closures, traffic alerts, re-route options, speed ratings on the roads, etc. I had this on my X6 too. Do you not have all of the subscriptions?

I am very familiar with the BMW Nav and its capabilities. You may have missed my point.

Waze is crowd-sourced, meaning it aggregates driver input, speed, etc. around you to get more real time traffic. While the BMW Nav does use services which provide alerting, it is not as up to date nor as complete as Waze's model. I have experimented with both and Waze is much more reliable for traffic, especially in well traveled areas.

Touché. That's exactly how escort live works as well. It's completely community-based. The more people that use it the better off it works.

Certainly radar detectors that crowd-source are additional tools, however the number of users of Waze create a much larger, more complete coverage area. I use both Nav's as needed - Waze when I am concerned about traffic or getting somewhere on time, and the BMW Nav when less concerned about traffic or slow downs. The addition to CarPlay has aded to Waze's usefulness, now only lacking wide screen and HUD.

You can code CarPlay to go widescreen. BimmerTech offers it.

I would contact @Almaretto on here before purchasing anything off of eBay. He's about to do my CarPlay and make it widescreen. Heck, that could even be his ad!
