Widescreen CarPlay from OEM Navigations does not work with EVO version S (after the backup camera recall update). I have sent them an email with this attachment:

Update:

Well, I received a few responses from OEM Navigations:
"S firmware is not supported yet. We working on it."
Then I asked about the cert/encryption topic:
"Simply said yes. They added some block for codings."

Not surprised. I believe they need to edit files to accomplish wide-screen. This is very different than coding which simply manipulates existing settings/parameters in the module software.

Correct. It requires making changes to the CarPlay.ini file on the head unit In order to change the icon spacing and icon size.

Not sure. I believe it comes that way by default on iDrive 7 and iDrive 6 on certain vehicles.

It does. It is default full screen on my MY2020 w/ iDrive 7. I haven't checked to see if I can do Split Screen with it.

Update: OEM Navigations has updated their installer to enable widescreen CarPlay on EVO-S which was updated with the backup camera recall.

Note: They did have to issue me a new code, but it did not cost me anything since I had already purchased it and was applying it to the same vehicle.

Just got my car back after the software update.

Noticed the backup and 3D camera video appears to be darker than before, and range of brightness/contrast adjustment is smaller than before. I guess this is what they were trying to fix, but has anyone else noticed this, or just my eyes going?

I park in relatively dark parking garages and would like to add more brightness/contrast..

Also, when I first drove the car, gesture control was a bit wonky, with radio volume going on and off if I moved my hand to the shifter lever or idrive knob. (volume should be switched by "split two finger thrust"), and not responding if I tried making gestures. Seems to have settled down after a day and working now (not that I ever use it intentionally..)

What NBTEvo version are you running with this recall update? I'm currently on R without having the recall completed but I also want to get non OEM lifetime CarPlay coding which currently only works thru version R not S.
No reason for that any more. BMW has made CarPlay free for lifetime for everyone. You should have gotten a email about this.

Good news is that your eyes are ok, bad news is that your right about range. If I read the recall correctly they are reducing the range to comply with US standards. Also notice after update camera name appears on the screen. At least on mine since I only have a rear camera.

Yeah, what I figured. Will have to try the cameras outside. I did notice a couple times the backup cameras before update would get completely washed out if backing up towards the sun, perhaps that has improved.

Only other thing i’ve noticed is a new welcome screen on the main idrive screen. Seems to turn on radio before you turn on the car if you click “ok”. Just another thing to push, I’ll see if i can clear it with bimmercode

For those interested you will not lose your flash tune on this update.

At least, that was my experience.

It changed the software version but did not rewrite either DMEs.

Good to know. That would be expected since the software only update: the head unit and associated modules.

Thanks. Yes my CarPlay subscription updated to 20 years in mid-December so I'm all set with that and the backup camera recall.
