The other day I was in Comfort mode, auto transmission. Doing about 40mph I was in a wide open area and decided to open her up for a few. It downshifted great, then RPM's went into the Red zone for sure before it shifted again.

Max RPM on the tach is 7000 RPM, but Redline starts at 6000 RPM.
Does anyone know the shift point at maximum throttle ?
I was surprised it went through 6000. My best guess would be something like 6300 RPM before it shifted into next gear.

I think around 6300 is about right. I also noticed it depends on the gear. It seems like mine short shifts first gear…. Shifts right at 6000 RPM. I don't stare at the tach… but I will now. I have a Osmo action cam…. Maybe I'll set it up pointed at the tach and run it through the gears

Thanks for the confirmation. It was the first time i've noticed it going past redline. Maybe it was the hard downshift from 7th to probably 2nd gear.

Here you go. I knew it short shifted into 2nd....even into 3rd. I didn't get too crazy. Done on a closed road of course.

Awesome!!! Looks like 3 and 4 definitely get into the red for sure.

It's bone stock. I guess ASD. If I put the windows down, it sounds awesome though....especially at the upshift points...makes like a crack. I wonder why the short shifting to 2nd and 3rd. Maby less stress on the drivetrain?

You should hear how that would sound with a Dinan exhaust. I've been doing nothing but what you have in your video for a week 😂. Windows down of course.

Do you have IDrive set to "sporty" ? Rumors are that 2020+ cars go full open when that is selected. I have mine set to " drive mode selected" or whatever its called. I just played it through my home surround and it sounds insanely good.

Yes, selected to sporty. I'll try to mount the Cam to the back bumper soon… I have a dual suction cup apparatus, hopefully that will be strong enough. Make sure my paint is super clean so there's no scratches. We'll see what it sounds like out back.

I've got a GoPro with similar mount.
This summer i'm going to cut off the resonator closest to the muffler, straight pipe it and live with it for a week or two. Then possibly cut the other one out. Here's an example of sound. I believe this is BOTH cut out. Thing i like about it is you can easily have the shop just put them back in.

You got it. The first car that I heard with this exhaust popping phenomena/shenanigans was I think the 2015 jaguar F type R. That exhaust would go bananas. I was strongly considering one of those years ago. It wasn't raw enough for me though…. It was only rear wheel drive at the time and no traction. Hindsight, I'm glad I didn't pick one up. I had no idea seven years later I would have the same performance with four doors. Much more comfortable too.

that's why it would be great if there was an exhaust button for the M lite cars, this way you can turn on and off the sound.

in addition AMG also has something called "emotion start" where if you start the vehicle while holding on the paddles, you get a much more aggressive nois. =)

You can get that same noise on the 2020+ M550's. Just select "Sporty" in I Drive7. It sets the exhaust to full open.
