Back on the D5, seems a little underpowered compared to the B5. |

The technical data comes only from the RHD version. To be fair, I think you should also link the LHD version because this has a different engine. This Video is the RHD-Version which has a 326hp Biturbo I6. The LHD-Version has a 388hp I6 with 3 turbos. Here is a Video from the LHD-Version: And here the technical datas: LHD: https://www.alpina-automobiles.com/d...hnische-daten/ RHD: http://www.alpina-automobiles.co.uk/...echnical-data/ |

so it basically is a 540d xDrive by Alpina or in other LHD one sent by Marius16 a 550d? because bmw does not make one. Alpina seems to offer not much these days in terms of diesel engines...

I realise that the 3 turbo engine may not be able to fit in an RHD car due to the position of the steering column, but what I'm not clear on is that the old Alpina diesel which is still available in the D3 and D4 makes more power than the new engine, 257kw versus 240kw
http://www.alpina-automobiles.co.uk/...bo/powertrain/ http://www.alpina-automobiles.co.uk/...-s/powertrain/ I find that a little disappointing. Also what is interesting is that as far as I'm aware the 540i and 530d are the highest engines available in any RHD market G31s. Alpina UK doesn't show a D5 S G31 only a D5 S G30, but they have both G30 and G31 B5s. Slightly different topic, an interesting thing I noticed is that the only way to get a RWD 6 cylinder G31 is the 530d. Every other option for 6 or 8 cylinders is 4WD. The G30 however is available as a RWD 540i. |

I have an F31 touring and will be sad when I move on to something else, since there won't be anymore wagon offerings for us NA folk. The new 5 series wagon and Alpina versions are gorgeous.

I can't remember exactly which BS excuse they used to justify the double turbo RHD version - some nonsense about efficiency I think was quoted.
But it's very clear that BMW refused to sanction the tri turbo setup in the UK because it would take too many sales due to BMW's poor decision not to bring the M550d here. Pathetic and anti competitive |
