I downloaded the latest 2020/3 maps using bmw download manager and unziped to a usb 64gb drive (exfat format). Plugged into the armrest port and the update started automatically.
However, it got to 13% and then went back to 0%. After a couple of cycles of this happening, the error is displayed

'Data on usb device unusable. Please replace usb device and try again'.

Even after removing the usb, the error keeps popping up making idrive barely usable. I used the same usb to previously update the maps and formatted the drive before the latest update.

Any idea what's causing this and how it can be resolved?

I still have map updates till 2022.

Did you try a different USB drive? Perhaps the one you're using has failing memory chips.

Yeh I'd do the same , different usb drive and download again in case corrupted
I'm sure that will sort it.

Didn't realise exfat was supported, I always use fat32
