Question for New York State residents who did PCD recently

I have PCD coming up in August. I live in NY and purchasing the car from a NY dealership.

As they are setting up the PCD process, the dealer is telling me that they need to get me temporary South Carolina plates because NY would require them to inspect the car when issuing plates.

I've done PCD in the past but that was an out of state dealership. They were able to get me my permanent NY plates prior to PCD. I had them in my luggage and arrived in Spartanburg with them in my hand. We just bolted them on my new car inside the performance center. Granted, in this scenario, I only had 10 days to drive the car home and have it inspected in NY.
(I think that's the state requirement.)

So I guess there are many ways to skin the cat; wondering how others from New York did it?

A little uncomfortable getting out of state plates just for this.

My state, Arizona, issues 30 day driveaway plates.
