Custom Exhaust Tips, Res delete, X-pipe, BM3 Tune
Greetings everyone!
Welp, I finally finished some mods on my car. 1. Removed the resonators and installed an x-pipe 2. Removed the stock muffler tips and replaced them with polished stainless steel 4" double walled tips 3. Replaced the rear diffuser with a gloss black M5 style diffuser 4. Stage 1 BM3 tune The resonator delete was pretty straight forward and allowed the engine note to come through better. With the tune the pops and crackles after the tune are definitely more pronounced. VIDEO CLIP: The tip swap was a challenge. Most shops declined the task. I finally found a shop in Red Bank NJ, Bradley's Auto Service. https://bradleysauto.com/services/cu...haust-systems/ These guys nailed it with the install, the final result completely transformed the rear of my car. The problem was that the expander couldn't be used due to the unique rectangular size of the OEM outlets coming from the muffler. In the end the only way to meet it up with the tips (inlet 2.25") was to leave a gap between the tips and the outlet. Then, they were reluctant to decrease the inlet side of the tips because of the fear of the structural integrity and possibly cracking. I was ok with that considering it would never be seen when on the ground. As I walk away I can't stop looking back at it! Gary was a pleasure to work with as well. If you're in the tri-state area and would like to do this to your car, I highly recommend giving them a shot. Rear diffuser. This was pretty straight forward. I'm not so happy with the final fit where it lines up with the bumper but for $190 you get what you pay for. I'm currently looking to find a fix for that. The tune, yeah... This tune woke up my car to the next level. Nothing can be said that wasn't already said on this forum. In comfort the car is quiet and "normal-ish", in sport plus the beast comes out. My fiancé described the 0-60 with launch control as terrifying! That was the reaction I was searching for! The final side by side with the new Camaro gives a perspective of the outlet side comparison. Enjoy the pics and have no problem answering any questions in regards to my mods.

Nice post and nice work. I would love to swap in some double round tips (black for me) but it doesn't appear you can unless you want to change out the exhaust to get them to sit right. I do think if you went with black tips (like the Dinan ones), the space around your tips would be less noticeable. I'm not a fan of the pops or anything that draws unnecessary attention, but to each his own, I am sure it fits right in on The Shore, just kidding!
Your car looks very tastefully done and clean. The diffuser looks pretty good to me, but I am sure wherever it is off is like a magnet to your eyes.

As far as it lining up, I think it came out on point - see photo attached. I made them crazy making sure it all lined up right. You can't see from the photo here however there is a space between the pipes and the spaces are symmetrical from the left to right side.

I was going to get the Dinan muffler and mid. I decided to save a LOT of money and do this mod instead. I figured at the end of the day I didn't loose too much in the event it failed and I didn't like the end result. The unwanted space was between the oem muffler and the 2.25 inlet of the new tips. I have to say that the 4" outlets means business!

There just something about me that doesn't want to molest the system unless it's going with a credible replacement and that ain't gonna happen for $5,000 ish installed. It sounds like a resonator delete would be the closest to what I am looking for which is just a bit deeper and no pops and bangs. I think the kids call it "burble". I just can't bring myself to chopping up my system. I know I'm in the minority and it's not that big of a deal. What you have done is tasteful. I would swap my tips out for doubles in two seconds if it were a straight forward swap.

It sounds like the res delete is the way to go for you. After that is was a bit deeper and you can hear the burbles a little more pronounced.

I did the BM3 Stage 1 with 93 octane. That woke her up tremendously. The power delivery is amazing now, not that it was weak before. Now my wife calls it terrifying during launch control - worth every penny for that alone! LOL

Only challenge now is the supply chain issues - ship dates continue to be pushed back (now 7/15).

Nice! I don't have the balls to try launch control and I didn't have the balls to do BM3 for fear of screwing my my warranty. So given I am not the profile to launch, Dinan S1 was enough for me. What is crazy is that these cars are such beasts stock that I felt compelled to sink another $2,200 into it for the S1 installed.

Sinking $5,000 into it for a Dinan exhaust ain't going to get me peanuts on the trade up. But on you rationalization that because it is a $92,000 car that another $5,000 should be a shake of the shoulders, one can make the claim that it is a $92,000 car that needs nothing to most people and in reality, it really does need nothing. On supply chain - I can't even get my spacers to ship!

Ha! Great points. I always have the best of intentions "I plan on keeping this car for a long time" With my track record that may not happen, but it sure would be nice to own something outright eventually. My factory warranty is long gone, I'm at 60k. My personal warranty is good until 100K.
I do have my eyes on the next gen 5. With all honesty my goal car is the M8 Comp - at 50 years young, so many cars, such little time! LOL

As with all of this stuff, it only makes sense to the owner. On paper, spending on these cars is financially suspect anyway, but you only live once.

My POV is different. I'll likely keep my 2020 for 7+ years before I may go electric. I don't see the M5C as desirable mainly because the exhaust sounds shit (weird mix of 6/8 cylinder) due to the crossover manifold. I wanted a V8 that sounds like a V8 and the M550i does that in spades.
I've done res-delete (cheap as chips), and will lower, spacers and then stage 2 once out of warranty to get some more performance. I reckon a 2020 could be a low-mid 10 car easily with a stage 2 which should be plenty. |

Rktunes stage 2 with intakes as well did 640whp which has to be over 700hp crank. Add meth injection and I suspect you could get closer to 700hp wheel (unproven). That would make it close to a stage 2 M5. And I’m sure with castles downpipes sounds even better. |
