Can I put a full 7 qts of engine oil in my 540i?
Hello, I am a noob here and just joined the BMW family.
I have a 540i and I’m just trying to figure out, I’ve seen that the vehicle has a capacity of 6.9 quarts. Would it be okay if I just put an entire 7 quarts in the engine? |

Put 6 quarts in. Start and warm up the car. Then add until you reach the full mark.
On my M550 I put 9 quarts in, and add until full, which is 10 quarts. But assuming 6.9 is correct, 7 quarts is not going to create any issues. But until you have performed the oil change a couple times, I would not recommend blindly dumping 7 quarts in and assuming that is correct. |

I got 6.5 liters into my 2021 540i (b58tu) and that seemed to be the sweat spot when checking the level (which you can't do until the engine is on a flat surface and up to "operating temp").
I drove it around the neighborhood with 6.5 in and checked the level afterwards. |
