New Rendering

Didn't see this posted anywhere, but as someone considering a G30 in two lease cycle (2020) I've only been keeping light tabs on what Munich is working on. I felt like this was a pretty natural progression to the 5er line, considering how the new 7 came out looking.

Awful. Its a 7er with the intakes of a 4er.

An accurate rendering seem to be a bit of an oxymoron. People tend to throw out crazy designs or total hodgepodges like this one seems to be (7er+4er elements). I think it's been confirmed that US debut is at the 2017 LA Show, but world premiere is something like October 2016.

Hmm looks too long and not very 5 series ish. Also think the grills are taking a deeper look into the G series, not quite a la 3.0 CSL but in that direction.

Okay I guess we're getting closer with that one. I could see BMW making a new car looking like that, but I don't think it's all too close to the G30 tests we've gotten a look at.

Looks kinda like a 5½ series.

I'm not obviously not Scott, but neither are reasonably accurate. The Gxx 5 won't have the Hockey Stick down the doors. At the most, some trim lines may have a decorative strip below the doors, similar to the F16 X6, and the air breathers on the fender are a hybrid of Gxx 7er and F16 X6. They will not be continuously connected like the 7er. The family resemblance will be apparent, but the Concept Compact Sedan is my best over all comparison. It takes a significant amount design influence from the Gxx 5er. The grills are going to have a forward cant when viewed in profile (imagine a modern interpretation of the E28) with the lower facia extending forward to meet. The character line will be a bit more aggressive than the G11/12 and as it tapers to an end at the back, will give a more exaggerated/athletic appearance to the rear wheel arches.

Not everyone will agree, but the F10 is a hard act to follow. It might not be the most dramatic, or sexiest contemporary BMW, but it's nigh on impossible to find an over or under styled viewing angle. I still am in love with the F06 as much as I was when I first saw the concept before Beijing years ago, yet certain angles give it a bit of an awkward appearance.

I had to bite my tongue about my initial dislike of the black Filler Piece between the Grills on the G11/12 until after it was officially launched. I have some initial reservations on the front styling of the Gxx 5 as well, but they are reservations that will quickly disappear.

Totally agree that the F10 is a hard act to follow, still today in MSport guide she's a looker.

Curious as to why you think the new 5 wont have the hockey stick? Having seen the new 7 more and more in showrooms it has grown on me.

One way can be to look at the latest spy photos available on here. The car in them is at the 2nd to last stage before the distortion graphics begin to come off. There are still some distortion panels and pieces under the vinyl (the next stage is public testing with still nearly full graphic camouflage but without the underlying pieces).

The final shape of the air breather is visible from the side and rear 3/4 angle. The lowest point of the air breather is more than 25mm higher than on the 7 which is incorporated at the bottom of the door panel at the sill line. For there to be a "hockey stick" handle running aft, it would necessitate a fairly complex door stamping to accommodate it.

If G30/G31 is to be launched at the Paris Motorshow in September this year, when will the dealers be able to order their HEA-units ?
