Mods to support E30 or more?
Hey all, I've never been able to find a really clear answer about this. Can our cars run the MHD E30 map without modifying the fueling system or anything else? I've got FMIC, Charge Pipe, Catless DP and I'm on MHD Stage 2+ but I'm interested in running E30 for the power gains, and also because during the 2 days I was on the E30 map previously, my car had never idled so smoothly and ran so nicely. It even solved timing correction issues I get when I do logs.
What's safe for E30? I've heard some people say with the map we can run E30 on stock parts, while my mechanic told me without upgrading my fueling system I'd just be on borrowed time. What about something higher, like E50? Fuel-it sells kits for Flex Fuel, Fuel Lines, Fuel Pumps and Fuel Injection, and I really don't understand which kit is necessary or any of them at all?

I used to run E40-45 on the stock turbo and max it out. You will have no issues running E30 and you will not be on borrowed time for your fuel pumps. This assumes you have a 2011.

You both mentioned early N55's, did the design of the pump change later on? Mine is a January 2012 build

N54's and early 2011 N55's uses a rotary pump. Post 2012 N55's uses plunger pump.

So with an early 2012 build I shouldn't plan to run E30 without upgrading the pump? Just the LPFP?

What is it then? Just trying to figure out exactly what's needed to safely and reliably run an E30 or higher blend.

According to realoem.com they made the change in March of 2012 which would mean you have the older higher flowing HPFP. An easy way to tell is the DME. If you need a bench flash then you have the new HPFP. No changes would need to be made with either HPFP you have. I have not heard much from MHD in regards to the new DME/HPFP and their E30 map. Trying to create a tune that fits all or most applications means they wouldn't push boost to the limit. I would assume they would bump timing up quite a bit to make more power on lower boost.

No reason to unless you're needing more fuel than it can provide.

E30 is really the sweet spot. If you're running the JB4 without a BEF that will be the limit with that tune. If you're running MHD only they have a E30 flash. There really isn't a need to go past E50 unless you're maxing out a larger turbo and have supplemental fueling.

Hey guys how do you like the MHD e30 OTS map? I'm getting some timing corrections that I'd like to fix. Plus I just recently installed a new HPFP on my 2010 build N55. How are the power gains compared to 91 ACN?

E30 is a noticeable jump over 91 octane. I haven't ran any of the OTS maps so no feedback there. If you have some timing corrections then I would add just a little more E85. How are you verifying your mixture is E30?

If you're running into timing corrections then I would just mix a little more ethanol than you have been previously. Your fuel trims should be able to make up for the difference and the higher ethanol content should provide more knock suppression. I'd do your calculation based on E35 and see what that looks like.
