Hope this helps others with similar predicaments. I wanted a quick release solution and when off, I wanted as clean a look as possible. Tow hook solutions were not appealing because when the plate is off, you are left with the exposed two hook compartment as well as the plate screw. Sto n Sho options were appealing but the low front lip solution was not appealing either aesthetically.

I ended up using a quick release Sto n Sho solution for the M2/3/4. I got this off Amazon with Prime and free returns. My goal was to test a center mount right above the ACC cameras with the hope it would not compromise ACC. I also didn't not want to drill any holes and was hopeful the 3M double sided tape would be enough.

Everything went as well as I could have hoped for. No compromise to ACC with plate on or off and the mount fits perfectly between the camera molding and the edge of the front bumper. The adhesive is very strong. I can't imagine it breaking free. My plate is off just a tad from square but there was no way of moving it once even lightly stuck. It bugs me a little but time will make me forget about that. If I were to do it again, I would be more careful. I thought about removing it (with fishing line) and re-doing but I'll leave we'll enough alone.

I chose the M2/3/4 solution because it looked like it had the closest or shortest prongs so the plate could sit as close as possible to the bumper. It's actually closer to the eyes than in the top down pic. Maybe there is an option that will sit closer but my emails to Sto n Sho were completely ghosted.

I hope this helps other OCD owners like me. I'll surely post any updates or observations.

You realize they just came out with one for the M550i with ACC that uses existing holes, right? But anyway, nice job!

Link? From what I understood, they were "working on it". If it's a lower lip solution, I like mine better.

Here is the complete list of BMW solutions from their site. Maybe I'm missing something. I don't see 2018 upper mount with ACC.

Update: I actually removed the receiver with dental floss and reapplied it because it being off square bugged me. I did not apply new tape. Just took it off and stuck it back correctly.

Joe,

Thanks for that link ! I'm just off phone with Mike (one of their designers) and he is pretty sure the mount will work on 2020 and *most* M550's that have the 2 bolt setup under the front lip. He gave me the install link, and from what I can tell this should work and will look pretty clean. Its super easy to remove with just a pull pin also.

Here it is:
https://store-try8i50ooe.mybigcommer...0i%20W-ACC.pdf

I'm sending him these pics of my front end and where it mounts just to be sure.

Woah I like that solution. So does he think it will work on a 2018? Would you mind measuring the distance between those two bolts? I'm going to check mine out and do the same. I'll order it too.

No, mine is a 2020. And I "thought" i had ACC, but I dont. So mine mounts dead center using 2 more screw/bolt holes. It should look really nice. Sits down low, no holes in bumper. Just ordered it. Wont interfere with parking sensors, etc.

Call them and ask for Mike. Super nice guy and a fellow Veteran too. He can explain it all, but essentially said all the "newer" M550's all have the same lower screw pattern holding the lip, so they should all work and wont interfere with parking or adaptive cruise. If you have the ACC, it will be bumped over to the drivers side a bit.

Heck, even mention a coupon code for Bimmerpost ??? I got 15% for Military.

Thanks Mark. I updated my post after you replied after I realized you had a 2020. It really just a few screws on the scrape guard (for lack of better word), right?

Exactly. You take the 2 screws out, replace them with the mount and new hardware they supply. Then you install the license plate bracket. The bracket attaches to the mount using a quick disconnect pull pin. So you can literally remove and install the bracket/plate in seconds.

I really like the concept, but I would call and ask Mike if there are any changes specific to your 2018. From what I understood him saying all the "newer" M550's all have the same bolt pattern.

You can try and ask a Mod to see if they will give Bimmerpost members a discount since you have more rank than me ?

Thanks. I called and spoke with a woman. She seemed nice. I think this will work. So you don't just use the two screws here that you remove? You use theirs? As much as my solution works for me, this is cleaner and will allow me to remove the bracket where I have it that you can see.

Thats it bud! In my order it states new hardware. I assume a little longer to allow for the mount.

If this works without interfering with my parking sensors and your parking /ACC, i will be psyched! According to Mike they did several tests ensuring it sits low enough to not make our cars "freak out" sensor wise.

I'm just happy not having holes drilled!

Yeah, I think it should be fine for parking sensors. Mine will definitely need to be off to the side, but I still don't see an issue with the sensors. I really won't keep mine on much as all. You will probably install before me as I'm going away late next week. Definitely keep me posted. Thanks for making me aware of this.

Will do. I just got my NH Vet plates today. They are quite noticeable and any NH / MA Law Enforcement would probably pull me over for not having the fronts installed, which is why I really needed to get them on. The NH Vet plates are quite "loud" if you know what i mean. hahaa.

Have a good trip. Will post pics once installed.
