Used the link and entered VIN for my 2018 540. Said lights not compatible. Is this because the lights are euro spec and my ca a US spec?

Pretty much every site will tell you the lights aren't compatible for either US or Euro spec on a pre-LCI because they technically aren't.

Just put my VIN in and it says it's compatible.

I believe I read somewhere that the euro lights are not to DOT standards in the US due to the turning signal being just a small line.

If you use the part number for just the rear light yes. But this is specifically a retrofit kit offered for pre-lci cars to upgrade to the newer lights.

It shows as not compatible because it's an Euro light and not US. If there is any coding/wiring necessary it will be explained in the guide, which is sadly only provided to BMW dealers.

Got some goodies for you guys. New wiring is necessary, coding is necessary as well. But everything is described in the install guide

Since it's an OEM retrofit and nowhere it's mentioned that welcome lights are not working, I can only assume all functions will be working correctly after the coding.

Oh you talking about the euro ones.

I got the US LCI tails and in the US. Got them installed and coded, everything works except welcome lights. Had to disable that in idrive.

It's attached to the post you're quoting. You have to use your browser, the attachment doesn't show on the app.

You will need the retrofit kit (remember the part number I posted is for Euro spec lights), two additional gutter covers, 7+5m of 0.35mm² cable and 4 MQS socket contacts. Start by removing the old lights and door sill covers, lower A/B pillar covers on the right side, re-pin the connectors for the lights (details in the guide), add the new cables and route them to the BDC (passenger footwell area). Install the new lights and finally code the car (There is an LCI rear lights retrofit action plan in ISTA) and that should be it. Installation time is approx. 2.5h.

by the way, unrelated to the rear lights, I found a OEM retrofit kit for laser lights for pre-lci cars. Only requirement is HBA, i.e. the retrofit works even if you got the non adaptive lights.

Thanks! I would definitely bite as I want Euro spec lights for full glare free high beam capabilities and adding laser light to that would be nice. However, at ~$4k USD, it is definitely too much!

US spec lights have the functionality too, it's just coded out. If you have adaptive Leds you should be able to activate the function with some esys coding.

Correct. I have coded it, but the functionality is not 100% as there must be some missing hardware between NA and ECE headlights. With 5AP and 8S4 options removed I do get the selective beam, but the shadow-boxing is not there and there is a good amount of light leakage which causes glare to oncoming traffic. There's been a few threads about it on the forum and the consensus is that there is a physical hardware difference between NA and ECE headlights which cannot be solved through coding alone.

I dont think this applies to U.S. cars, which should make the install much easier. See instructions from someone who has actually completed it on a U.S. M5. I assume F90 and G30 are the same in the U.S.
