Extended warranty advice
My G32 (it’s more of a 5 series than 6 series tbh that’s why I’m here) has 34,000 miles and it has every single package offered. I had to change both driver and passenger seat ventilation fans, KAFAs (radar?), ambient lighting strip and one door’s soft close mechanism in the past month all under warranty. BMW offered me extended warranty. The details:
2 years/up to 60k miles is $3,074, 3 years/70k miles $3,671, 4 years/80k miles $4,145. It’s my daily now so I’ll be driving it close to 20-25K miles a year Is it worth it? If yes, which one? Thanks in advance |

Or, did you receive a 100 calls today from someone saying your car warranty is expiring?

Are you sure? Or is your sidebar inaccurate?
In the US BMW only offers a max of +3Y/+50K miles for an extended warranty... So the max you can purchase would be 7Y/100K from original car sale date... You mentioned a +4 option? https://www.bmwusa.com/content/dam/b...t_Brochure.pdf |

Third Party Warranties can't be evaluated well unless you're taking a deep look at their exclusions and limitations then cross referencing that with their payout history and shop limitations. I stuck with BMW for mine and it wasn't anymore expensive than my negotiated prices with Christine @ Steve Thomas BMW. I'd reach out to her and see where that stacks up. At least with BMW it is as simple as dropping the car off at any dealership and letting them sort anything out with payment, etc with BMW so it should be a smooth experience. https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1676787 The key is the exclusions, limitations, and payment history for any of those. |

I never get extended warranty for any car. In my opinion, repair costs really aren't too bad unless you are paying dealer pricing which is msrp for parts and usually double the labor hours compared to most independent shops. I will probably eat my words when my engine booms tho XD

I previously wasn’t interested in extending the warranty on my car until I got closer to the 4Y/50K mile warranty expiring. It was an easier decision on my Mercedes as the Mercedes extended is fully refundable until the factory warranty is out. BMW isn’t… But I jumped on it this time around simply because the part shortages and current realities have guaranteed that I’ll be holding onto my car for the next 7 years. BMW got rid of my biggest annoyance too by dropping the deductible. If you skip the extended warranty and decide to invest the money instead (a solid choice) then you have to be very clear about the “break line” and once your repair cost hits that line you need to dump the car and move on. Otherwise, you’ll get slammed with runaway repair costs potentially. Swapping to another car in the current market may be painful as you’ll overpay for less features. |

If it doesn't say BMW Platinum Extended Service Contract then it's probably not what you want. 3rd party warranties are higher mark-up so often touted first, can potentially be less portable between dealerships, and are fraught with fine print gotchas.

"This contract is provided by BMW Extended Service Corporation..." with the office address of BMWNA in Woodcliff Lake. They bolded the name in the contract too... |

I sold BMWs and MINIs between 2007 and 2014. I never bought a BMW extended warranty but I once bought an extended maintenance plan because they covered brakes. Waste of money; my 2010 535xi had its original brakes with 15,000 miles remaining when I sold it after nine years and 45,000 miles. For customers who wanted an extended warranty, I always recommended a BMW one. I talked extensively with our service people and they also always recommended a BMW warranty rather than an aftermarket one. Said they had nothing but troubles with most aftermarket warranties in terms of delays and denied claims, and few if any problems with BMW's. They only extended warranties that I have ever bought--two--were on fairly exotic Corvettes. The first was on my 1993 ZR-1 which I bought in 1994; never made a claim on it. The second was on my 2016 Z06. A couple of weeks ago at 22,000 miles the Z06 broke a valve spring. It was fixed at no cost to me, although after a week or so due to slow approvals. I have a zero deductible seven year 60k Chevrolet Protection Plan that goes until mid-2024. Glad I got it; I suspect in this case it paid for itself. In both cases I got the longest term and relatively low mileage plan. --Bob

I realize it's all anecdotal, but my experience has been very positive with an extended warranty through a dealership. It had a deductible on every incident, but it paid for itself for the 3 years in terms of how much I had saved. Now, this was at dealership service pricing, of course.
So I don't know if I'd do it again - I've had very good experiences with an independent mechanic. This was back in the days when it was through a dealership only and BMW Canada didn't offer something directly. If I can find such a trusted independent mechanic in FL too, I'd just go there. |

...And when you get into a total loss accident or in my case, flood, you lose all that money you spent on that warranty.
I won't ever buy a warranty after that, I'll pay the dealership to do things as they break. I would have came out ahead even at dealership prices anyways.

You're supposed to be get a prorated refund at least if the vehicle was declared a total loss. https://www.bimmerfest.com/attachmen...ct-pdf.399814/ |
