Huh?

You might need more qualifications on what you're describing. The MY2020 pre-LCI G30 is only available with the full digital dash in the US. I assume this is true also for the LCI MY2021+.

Is this a standard dash option available in Canada? Or what are we looking at exactly?

BMW Canada website also shows the BMW 5-Series as having the full digital dash as standard.

I saw this on G20 online picture as well, i think its a base model… i can see russian text here, maybe its a non US base model 520i?

Theres another post of someone outside usa posting pre-LCI G30 520i base with a small digital screen on the bottom and the rest looked digital but actually analog…

Its not out of possibility that LCI outside USA, especially base model, would have a new non-digital display.

That would make sense. Though the poster sidebar says they are from Canada without that reality.

Additionally, in that scenario this setup could still be an improvement over the Pre-LCI screen, whatever that looks like in those markets.

Yes good eye definitely Russian text. Odds are it is a base 520. And honestly with how much Russians love BMW these would not thwart off potential buyers what so ever. Chalk it up to if you want/need the car during post Covid chip shortage era this is what you get.

Yeah this is from a YouTube channel I was watching. It is indeed a Russian spec G30. However, it's not like these base clusters are limited to just the 520 models…depending on the country standard equipment…it can very well be standard on even a 540i.

Classic example is the Pre-LCI G30 in the US all of them (including the M550) came with the inferior half LCD cluster with no option to even upgrade to the full LCD cluster. Whereas in Canada even the 530i had the full LCD cluster as standard.

The point of my post was nothing to do with any country but the fact that BMW would put such a comical looking cluster on a high end car like the G30.

I'm not a fan of that cluster, but I wouldn't presume that everyone wants the all digital cluster either...

From my understanding, in the US before MY2020 you had the base cluster that was a mix of analog and digital and you had the upgraded full digital cluster option. Many here in many threads were upset about the shift to an all digital cluster with MY2020.

The cluster you are referring to as a mix of digital and analog in the G30 was weird in the sense that only the numbers were analog…the needle and everything was anyways digital so not really much different from the all digital cluster at all except it was ugly.

A real example of the hybrid of analog and digital is the 6WA cluster on the F10.

The cluster is half round half hexagon, to me thats awkward design, plus is likely analog needles behind a smoked screen. the video confirms my suspicion that it comes with base 520i.

most people who mind this cluster might be majority enthusiasts… but same people usually dont get 520i.

On the other side, i doubt people would back out from buying solely because of the cluster… knowing this BMW just rolled it out lol

So they're going back to gluing plastic gauge cluster surrounds to the screen? Confirms that BMW is never going to give us more customization options.

I had this cluster on a 330i loaner. It was an msport with nothing else. The gauges look strange but function just fine. I agree with OP that for the more upscale G30 it looks out of place.

It WAS a standard cluster in G30 in many markets, irrespective the engine.
However, due to shortages from around Q1/Q2 2021 BMW does not fit it to 5series.

Example: I ordered G30 in Nov’20 with such standard cluster. After few months I was informed that due to shortages I got an upgrade to full virtual cockpit free of charge.

I wonder how difficult it would be for BMW to allow users to change the display of their instrument cluster; like a smart watch for example.

It would be really good to see a digital instrument cluster based on the clean and simple lines of the earlier BMWs in my opinion.

Just seen the same instrument cluster in a LCI X3 M40i in Canada. Bizarrely, the car looks like it is quite well spec'ed but then has this cluster!

https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=28050497

Admittedly, this is clearer than the full digital dash mess that came with idrive 7, but…

The idrive 7 contra moving gauges make me growl.

To contribute to this thread, I have seen the same 'basic' / threadbare spec on 2020/2021 loaner 330i's from the dealer - I just thought it was a lower trim thing. They had idrive 7, but no digital dash

2018 m550 i made sure to get the digital cluster, and coded for sport default, but i do miss the amber/orange night gauges of the analog generations. my now old e93 is coded for it 24/7.
Decades of research showed that his color was easy on the eyes but that’s been completely abandoned with new technology. I don’t understand why the default comfort gauges which are pretty nice and simple dont even have the amber night setting? thankfully tho with one click of a memory button you can at least set the idrive screen blank.
I don’t want to complain too much because with my desired settings the night interior is really outstanding. Sport gauges blank Idrive and orange ambient sets off the saddle color interior nicely too but matching amber gauge would be the boss.

I wouldn't mind a bit for this cluster, not even in a M8 competition (when it would be offered). I'am more disappointed in the full digital cluster where they obviously don't really have a clue what to do with the total graphical freedom.
