Buying a 540i - Could Really Use Some Help

Hi everyone:

I'm going to be buying a 540i and had 3 questions. Any help on either of them will be helpful.

(1) Are non-run flat tires okay? I've had run flats on my 535 and they frequently deflate.
(2) Does anyone know where I can get true invoice pricing on the options?

Thanks!

Costco has invoice pricing with option breakdown.

Regarding RFT. They have been fine on my 530e. Others will chime in that they are the worst things to ever happen to cars. But if you had them in your last car you should be good to go.

I routinely check my pressure and adjust them as needed. I had to do 1 out of cycle adjustment in the last year.

I originally had 20' RFT on my car 540 but ended up switching to PS4S non-run flats and best decision I made. Prior to switching, I felt every part of the road and ride was really uncomfortable. Now I have a very smooth ride with excellent handling.

I think it really depends on size tire you have because I had a 3 series with 18 inch run flats (Bridgestone) and they were wonderful. Hope this helps.

I absolutely hate RFT's. The 1st thing I do when I buy a new car is have the dealer pull them off (either as part of the deal or I will just sell the tires as almost new)

I have rft on my 540 with 20 inch wheels
No issues to date after 16k miles
I have vdc on my car so in comfort mode, the ride is ok but in sport I'm aware of just about every road imperfection

I'm terms of ride quality , only you can decide what works for you so try and drive some to get an idea. The type of suspension fitted to the car could make a big difference

Read about people who have had issues with the tyres failing no doubt as a result of bad potholes

Mine have been fine but I guess that's something you need to be prepared for.

I am on my 4th or 5th set of RF tires on mt 2014 528i that has 100K miles on it. I am not sure how much I am missing over handling but they do get a bit loud specially towards the end of their life. For example, they last about 20-25K miles and the first 7-8K miles are absolutely fine with very minimal road noise and then the noise starts going up a little. But thankfully since its a 5 series the sound insulation is much better than lets say my wife's 3 series.

Coming to the utility of the RF - if you dont want to carry a spare tire all the time and lose trunk space, or want to stand in the middle of the road changing tire or waiting on roadside assistance, RF will absolutely save the day for you. I have had at least 4-5 flats between my car and my wife's car and thanks to RF we've been able to drive the car safely to a tire shop or home. I think that is worth losing some handling and smoothness over. I am about to place an order for 2021 530 and I am going to stick to staggered RF.

and btw mines have never deflated so not sure whats happening on your set. Only time the air gets topped up is during 10K mile oil changes and occasional low pressure during lower temperatures.
