I was side swiped on the front left fender / bumper / headlight area and even got the rim. They blew a red light almost hitting someone in the process.

Attached are the pics of the damage. The headlight cracked and the front bumper came out of place and won't snap back in. Seems like it got dented and wedged under the headlight, kind of weird.

What're your guys' thoughts? Should I go through insurance (I have the other cars' license plate), or should I just pay out of pocket?

Have a 500 deductible and they'd cover a loaner for 30 days.

*I live in NYC and was debating taking it to rallye bmw but if anyone has any body shop recommendations please lmk!

That headlight is a $6K part according to other posts on the forum. Not counting the minor bodywork.

Use your insurance. That’s what you pay for it for.

Are you saying you were involved in a hit and run ?
If you have the guys plates, call the Police. If it was not your fault dont pay for shit. They have traffic cams everywhere in NY.
Use the Police and your insurance wont go up.
If he doesnt have insurance you can sue him in small claims Court.

Filed a police report & provided dash cam footage

Got the plate and had a private investigator get me insurance and personal info - called their insurance and filed a claim and provided the dash cam footage as well.

Let's see what happens. Will fill you all in.

It was from a VIOFO dual dash cam 2k.

Pretty decent quality. Trying to figure out how to upload it here for you all to see. Any recommendations?

It takes a while for youtube to process higher def videos. They release a lousy quality video until the higher quality processes.

Hit and run is no bueno. Dash cam FTW! Someone is getting a surprise visit from the boys in blue I hope.

Definitely go insurance and don't forget to ask for diminished value. Keep a copy of the video and pics of the repair in your car file if you own the car vs. lease. Resale will be easier when you can show a buyer what the carfax ding for an accident really was.

For sure! I'm keeping all info and detailed reports as I own this vehicle.

Speaking with an attorney now to civilly sue for punitive damages, car depreciation, time of repair and rental etc. I just want to hit him over the head with as much as I can, fuck that guy

Currently waiting on a claim with the drivers' insurance Geico (hired a private investigator and pulled all personal info and insurance info on the driver via the license plate)

I know this is an older thread but what ended up happening?

You mentioned this was 3rd party dash cam footage, for the built in video recorder BMW offers, you would have had to hit the record button for 3 seconds button to capture this right?
