Exhaust Flap Controller

I spent my time looking for an exhaust flap controller but all of them were a task to install and cost over $100. Best solution is to buy a wireless OBDII adapter and Bimmerlink and you have the option to override the exhaust flap controller.

The ability desired here is to open/close the valve at will, regardless of drive mode.

BimmerLink can do it. You have to leave the Bluetooth receiver plugged into obd port, that's only downfall. But with that you can open close as you wish while driving.

From what I'm gathering you need to have a dongle plugged in for aftermarket exhausts like Amrytrix as well. Its too bad you can't have more than 1 device working at a time through the OBD port.

Yes, good option. The new Dinan solution however has a remote fob which can activate it. The remote can also be programmed to one of the programmable garage door opener buttons above rear view mirror, or other button. More money yes, cleaner install, yes.

With the remote, do you have to have anything plugged into the OBD port for it to work?

No. It is wired to the electronics of the flaps and uses a small remote FOB to select the flap state. That remote can then and be taught to the mirror remote buttons as an example.

Here's another option I came across online.
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-cg-preci...yABEgJ32PD_BwE

Only $200, but still looks pretty well made. I'm still not convinced this or the Dinan are adequately weatherproofed at the connectors, but I may be overly concerned...

Shouldn't there be boots over the area where the wires enter the connector to seal out dirt and moisture? (like Bosch connectors) Or is the sealing built into the connector?

One observation, the installation on the one sold by ECS is a bit simpler. The Dinan requires tapping into 12vt+ and adding grounds. Where as the one sold by ECS appears to get all its power and grounds through the existing valve wiring. It also can be integrated with HomeLink like the Dinan.
