M550 Rear Diffuser - Exhaust fitment

Another one of these threads - but what I did.

Went ahead and purchased a cheap m5 style diffuser off ebay to see how it would look with the shark fins. As previous posts mention, the stock exhaust tips do not fit on most of these. I have no dremel skills, but was able to extend the clearance for a semi stock look. I have not done a final sand on the edges yet. Took about 30 minutes and it fit perfectly. Only thing I'm not sure of is vertical reflectors. I will probably just black them out.

That looks great! Please point me to where you got this from. Did you dremel before or after installation? If I go this route, I think I will get it re-painted (or at least the dremeled off edges re-painted.)

Got it here. https://www.ebay.com/itm/173826243273

I dremeled before installing. Honestly, I just guessed where it should be but you could remove stock diffuser and outline the exhaust. I went straight up from the widest part at the bottom and just shaped it to be more square. The plastic is black, so you probably wouldn't even notice once it is sanded. No repainting necessary.

Got it. Did you have to dremel both sides? From what I'm seeing, only the outer side - but could be wrong?

I bought a similar diffuser for my 540i with M Performance exhaust, which is the same size as M550i. This is a picture of the fitment issue on the passenger side.

That's not bad at all. Should be an easy modification by a bodyshop to make it look stock.

Sophisto - that's how mine looked. I just started going straight up from bottom outer widest part and curved into the existing top. Also angled the inner folds when I cut. I'll see if I can get a pic of the cuts I made.

Mine is delivering today, it's cheap enough where I'm not going to stress if it doesn't work out. Hoping to get my Remus cat back installed shortly after it arrives so it might look nicer. I'm usually not trying to make my vehicles look like other vehicles but something about the M5 diffuser I really like, compared to the regular MSport.

I was told the exhaust opening wont fit the OEM trapezoid exhaust tips on the 550, i dont have any plans on changing the tips so will have to wait for the diffuser with the 10" wide opening vs 9.25"

enjoy the mods!

There are SO many cheap diffuser options on ebay and Amazon and almost all sourced from China. They can make a Louis Vuitton and Rolex exact copy, but they can't make a diffuser that fits the quad pipes on a G30 M550. I also have no Dremel skills and I know that even though the sanding and shaving looks good from a distance, you can see it and it would bug me.

Someone please make an M5 copy diffuser to fit the M550 out of the box!
