Anyone just do DINAN FREE FLOW AXLE-BACK EXHAUST?

I asked my shop for a quote on just the DINAN HIGH FLOW MIDDLE EXHAUST and he said Dinan has a disclaimer that this x-pipe "may" not fit the stock muffler assembly. We got to talking about what I was looking for, which is just a bit more sound but nothing obnoxious. I want just a bit more depth from sport mode only. He also went on to say if I knew other who just did the x-pipe with the stock muffler he would be happy to go at it. He was just pointing this out.

I then went on to say that I would love double black tips but I know this is not do-able with the stock muffler. He then went on to suggest I start with just the Dinan muffler and leave the stock resonator and pipes in place. He felt I would be very happy with the results.

Anyone do just the Dinan muffler or have any general comments or reaction to any of this?

Thanks in advance.

$1,900 installed for just the muffler assembly? The part is listed for $2,300 bucks just for the part. The middle exhaust assembly is $1,260 from Dinan. Is this what they quoted you for? If not, I would jump all over $1,900 for the muffler installed.

Not sure if this clip is the full Dinan set-up or just the muffler. It sounds good, maybe not $3,000 good with labor and tax.

The quote was just to replace the muffler excluding anything beyond that. It is also for a 540i not for an M550.

Ahh, that's where the math is off.

If you decide to do it, better order now. Both items (X-pipe and Exhaust) have been backordered for several months - I have been waiting since around March.

That’s an old clip from 2018 before Dinan came out with the x-pipe in November of 2019. Go to the Dinan website and look under videos for the music with the resonators deleted with the x-pipe and the Dinan exhaust.

Thanks, yeah the shop is bugging me to put the order in now for the full exhaust set up and the springs to get dibs. Then cancel what I don't want before it ships which would take at least two months. The springs don't even have a fictitious date like the other stuff, just a "call for availability ".

Gotcha, I've watched a bunch more today but none with just the latest muffler and the rest stock.

Just the muffler installed is $2,700 bucks, full exhaust with X pipe $4,000 grand. Need to sleep on it. It's a lot of money. I'm not going to lie, the double tips are the most appealing, added sound is second. It it were all about the sound, I'd just do a straight pipe resonator delete or just the Dinan X pipe.

Joe, just an FYI, that a muffler swap should not take more than one hour, max. That includes cutting the old muffler pipes at the proscribed (dimpled) locations, removing the old, installing the new, and using new muffler clamps at the cuts. Them some minor adjustments to get the pipes even.

Same for the middle pipe install...no more than an hour. And if you do both combined, 1.5 hours max.

Thanks Dave, yup the quote is very reasonable in terms of labor. In fact they told me Dinan sets the labor time and rates. They don't have anything to play with, theoretically.

We SUGGEST a labor time (listed under the specs tab on each product page) that is based on BMW quoted shop time for doing the task. As an example if BMW states a OEM axleback replacement is 1 hour we would say ours is 1 - 1.2 hours depending on similarity. We cannot set a time, nor a rate for the dealer as that is their labor and only they can decide what their time and skills are worth. Besides, labor rates specifically range dramatically around the country. All we can do is try to limit potential gouging by openly listing suggested times so the consumer can make an informed decision.

Thanks, I may have been overstated in my comments about rates, but definitely not on time. Direct quote cut and paste:

The labor time is set by Dinan.

Now this said, I don't think he meant it literally, it just that he honors your quoted times. It's a good thing. These same guys did my V2 tune and did it for and in the amount of time you quoted. A different shop quoted me 3 hours! I was in and out in an hour.

I'm jealous, you will have to post a before and after clip for me when you do get it in hand and installed.

I waited for months for Dinan to ship my exhaust. Finally canceled the order. I decided to go with GThaus. It was in stock and ready to ship. Got it in a week. Had it installed today. Very happy with it. I didn't want an obnoxious sound. It's a deep sound yet still respectable.

Bends and welds on the Dinan middle pipe are really well done. Matched up to the oem exhaust perfectly.

I'm looking for the same, a little deeper sound than stock. Any drone on the highway?
