Finally experienced the coolant expansion tank leak on my 2020 M550i. Got a low coolant warning a few days ago, went to my dealership, SA topped up the coolant and immediately took it into the shop and they found a leak. It is in for a replacement.

Good SA. I would expect the routine “yeah they burn coolant sometimes” and top off and send you on the way.

He's a really good SA. I didn't even have to ask, he just took charge of it. Reading the way SA's have been blowing off customers on this issue, I'm really thankful to have a good SA.

Invaluable. I brought the whole department donuts when they snuck me in on short notice to inspect and put new tires on the M550 the week it arrived. It was a big hit. X7 is due for an oil change in a month. Both cars are still under new car maintenance plan, so I’m going to spend the money on donuts again or something similar. Everyone appreciates being appreciated.

the wheel hub (err ... the strip of exposed metal between rotor and wheel hub) has rust on it for some reason. no rust on my 3 series there.
i have looked under the car and it's squeaky clean and shiny, not a single rust spot. |

Turns out that the leaking coolant entered the coil and fuel injector of the cylinder nearest to the expansion tank so those had to be replaced as well.

39k - passenger (right) side tension strut bushing is kaput. Fluid leaking out.
These are not cheap, btw, with aftermarket around $300 each, just for the part.

So BMWs still have belts? I thought they were like Mercedes, where there are no belts at all anymore. What is still being operated with belts, besides the alternator (or whatever it is)? Thx.

So just A/C; haven't read of any vehicle with hydraulic P/S in ages. Even exotics have EPS now, and for a while. Which one still has it? Just curious. And thank you for the info.

Don't know about the G30, but F10's X-Drives have hydraulic steering. What about the M's?
