Top speed M550?
So got Dinan tune yesterday,
Still testing it and loving it. Today on a closed course, I slammed it in sport mode and at while accelerating it stopped at 129mph at redline just like my M5 would stop at speed limiter. I didn't get to re try because I let off and slowed down. But was very strange, hard pull and stopped at redline 5th or 6th gear like I had it in manual and didn't shift, but it was in auto. Any ideas?

Did your car come from factory with Non run flat summer tires? If not, then it doesnt have increased speed limiter. AFAIK ( read threads here), there is no way to code around this

Flash tunes do remove speed limiter but piggybacks cannot.
My stock 540i easily reaches but does not go beyond 260kmh (speedo indicated) That is 162mph

Called bmw NA and my car is limited to 135mph due to original build with 19" wheels even though it was delivered to dealer with optional 636 BK 20's with runflats
Kinda sad about that.....

Like others have said, the speed limiter is set based on the tires that it had when it left the factory. Sounds like your dealer did a wheel swap. You may want to check to see what tire size is shown on the driver side door sticker.

Is this a US market "feature" as here in Europe /UK I thought our cars were limited to 155mph (assuming the car can get up to that speed of course)
In reality it makes no difference here in the uk as the speed limit is 70mph although I would just once like to drive my car up to that speed on a private road / runway to see what it is like |

Yeah it's a 50/50 chance in my eyes the way BMW NA said it's up to the dealer. They may just do it seeing that my family and I buy 5-9 cars a year from them. They may also not do it for liability reasons. I'm fine either way, and if it comes down to it I'll find a tuner. I was just shocked that an M550 was locked down at 130

It's not the M550, it's the OEM tires selected not supporting higher speeds. A McLaren with the same run flats would be limited to 130 also.

I would totally agree about the tires. My M550xi which came with 20in run flats and i have had it to 140. I slowed myself down not the car, so i am sure it would keep going. I wonder though when going it vehicle selections in the idrive i can select between summer tires and winter tires. I can also choose between different tire size options. 19in or 20in. also can select speeds less then 100mph or greater than 100mph.
Out of curiosity if your Bmw came with 19in, and its limiter is set to 130. Can you just select in the idrive the options for summer tires, 20in, and select greater then 100mph. Would that raise the limiter? |

you can have run flat tires but still not have the increased limiter. Its an option that need to be specifically included in the order. |
