For ED, people even can save more on 3ers. From what I heard, no $500 rebate for BMWACC members on 1ers and no ED discount offered either.
I don't know how many 1ers will be sold, but hell no, I won't get one based on the math above unless they can be negotiated within $1k-1.5k above the invoice.
Around the 1er release time, you'll probably be albe to get a 335 coupe for <$2k vs. 135.

What about some comparisions on deals with similar configurations you can get?

That's setting up for 1 series to fail. Compare MSRP with invoice? The comparison above is highly dependent on timeline. What if I wait another 5 years when 3 series is due for refresh and compare invoice 135i vs. new 3 series MSRP. As for bargaining, the better deal will always be on the older models. When 335i coupe was released there was no deals to be offered.

If bargain is what one is looking for, and bigger is better then 3 series is the right purchase. Even then, I can buy an year old cayman s with less than 10k miles for the same price as an optioned 335i coupe (msrp). Porsche over a bimmer. Or a new M coupe for 1k less than the 45k estimated sedan price above. Why get a regular bimmer when I can step into a M

130,000 units world wide. Only 20,000 is expected for 1er coupe next year. May be better for you guys since you dont like ugly cars on the road.

I personally think BMW is trying to maintain their image as a prestigious brand, by offering the 135i for under $30k it would be attainable for the average folk and would be all over the streets...

all i'd get is premium and sports package 4,300k add to base price. it is still pretty expensive. around 40k.

for those of you who configured and added step--i dont think bmw charges more for manual or auto.

The 128i will be bought by folks who want a very good performing (0-60 in well under 6 seconds, good handling, practical) BMW that will cost them from low to mid $30Ks well equipped. It will substantially outsell the 135i.

THe 135i is for those of us who want max bang for the buck and tuneability. I instruct at multiple racetracks with these type of guys and I truly believe the 135i will be the best bang-for-the-buck car to come along in a long, long time (perhaps ever).

Here's why:

The 135i will come standard with track-worth 6-piston brakes (arguably better than those being fitted to the M3).
The 135i will come in at under 3373 lbs (about 200 lbs lighter than an M3 - http://bmwusa.com/Standard/Content/V...fications.aspx) and, if you switch out the heavy (30 lbs each) 18" wheels for some 18 lb wheels of larger width mounted with bigger tires (say 245F, 265/18 rear - same footprint as M3) you just shaved another 50 lbs to near 3300 lbs.
For somewhere between $300 and $1400 you can increase the HP of the 135i to well over 400. If you go hog-wild and do intake, exhaust, and tune (say $3-4K total) you will have 450 HP or more in a car weighing about what a Corvette weighs.
Add a competent, well-sorted suspension for $2K installed plus an LSD for another $3K and you have a car that will challenge Corvette's, Porsche 911s, Ferraris, and will most likely take down the new M3.

Guys who really care about performance are salivating over the 135i since they will be able to build a comfortable, luxurious BMW WORLD BEATER for well under $50K. For those of you who have not driven a tune N54 engine in the 335i you will be amazed by the broad powerband, huge torque and great mid-range power. The 1-series will be lighter, more agile (shorter wheelbase, shorter length, 48%F/52%R weight bias) but with the same 3-series underpinnings and better brakes.

If I did not already have a 335i in the garage I'd be shopping the 1.

Why would u compare a 335i sedan to the 135i coupe? 335i coupe base price is $40,800 so the actual price difference on your scenerio is ~$5,305.

From what I've read the absolute best bang for the buck on a BMW sold in the US is a 135i w/sport pkg.

Please read again. I posted the prices one can get at the time 1er is released by showing the INVOICED 335 coupe and MSRP 135. I didn't compare invoice vs msrp, but the actual cost of buying these cars at the time.

Am I the only one that thinks its UGLY? The headlight, roof, and the overall shape of the car is not even close to flowing. I am pretty upset with the design overal. I would rather have a 47K 335 coupe.

Gotcha. So the supposition is that BMW is willing to sell the 335i close to invoice and not the 135i? Still flawed comparision imo. My $.02
