Adding adaptive cruise?

BIMMERPOST

I found some older posts about up fitting cars but nothing closer to my model year. (2018) has anyone tried to get a dealership to answer this? I’m currently waiting on a reply from my local bmw. I do have the driving assistance package but not the assistance plus package. Didn’t know if it used same parts.

It is a large change as you’ll need a new bumper with the front radar and you’ll need additional radar under the bumper front and back as well as potentially the wiring and etc.

Might be cheaper to sell your current car and get one with the package already on it.

I believe that you do have some of the sensors since you have frontal collision warning. Do you have two cameras in the rear mirror assembly?

While you may have some of the sensors, it will still probably be expensive. On the other hand, ACC is an absolute "must have" for me.

Are you sure about needing a complete new front bumper? I would think just the lower grill with a cutout for the camera. But yeah, I agree not worth the effort overall.

Do you mind putting part numbers or listing from ebay. Thanks.

LOL! Why don't you just ask him to buy all the parts for you and install it in your driveway?

Part of the fun of these type of projects is doing the research and some googling. I am sure a search on ebay on "BMW G30 Active Cruise Control" will return a lot of answers.

Thanks for sharing!

So it doesn’t require the ultrasonic sensors to work or were those already included on your car? As my previous read of the technical documents on the forum was that it used them as well.

My car was outfitted with this from the factory and the ability for it to see the car in front of the car in front is pretty cool. But good to know if it is an “optional” part of the system from a retrofitting perspective.

Oh I didn't know I asked your opinion!!!
While you have fun I can compare my findings with his who has actually done it. I'm sure if you keep quite and just read, lots of threads gets shorter and people can easily find what they're looking for.

Relax, I was being sarcastic and also highlighting the fun of a project like this.

BUT yeah, at the same time, why don't you try doing what you said, share these "findings" first and then asking for confirmation? I guess he did mind doing the work for you by not going onto ebay and cutting and pasting links for you. There are different ways to phrase things and ask for help, like, "hey, you wouldn't happen to have any documents you could share". I get that a lot and I am happy to share.

In terms of being "quite", this is a thread, I can chime in however I like.

Back corner radars are already installed on his car since he has Drive Assistance package (5AS). And there is no need to replace the whole front bumper, only the front lower grille (with radar opening) replacement is enough

In addition to those front corner radars (x2) are also necessary for full functionality (active lane change and blind spot assistants).

Also steering wheel must have (I still think that can be solved) pressure sensor; so complete steering wheel change is needed
