Back to the OP topic...

I must be missing something, because this sounds like a way to highlight features already available on the car - some special order. It is unclear if the "Individual" items are really no different in that they need to be special ordered?

Sedan sales are down. I wonder if BMW has decided to allow a lot of up scaling of the sedans to increase their desirability? When my X5 40e lease is up in 2020, I'll be looking at another 5 series sedan as an alternative to the new X5 and these kinds of options will be influential.

If a cop hadn't totaled my 2017 X6 last month, I would have held out for a 2021 M550ix. That should be the new series after G30 and will have the new iDrive 7.0 which comes on the new X5's and X7's. Of course they may put that in next year which will drive me crazy since I just bought a 2019. It has a new digital assistant where you can say, "Hey BMW, I'm cold" and it will turn the hear up. It also has a bigger screen that today's models. It's very cool and is coming on X5's and X7's after March.

My temptation would be a M340i G20 with individual merino leather upholstery. That would be sweet.

Nobody can predict if the cars going to be alright or not... Some people get a brand new car and it's a lemon... Others drive their car for 200,000 miles without major issues... Why was the engine replaced? Who replaced the engine? There's quite a few intangibles here...

That is a metric fuck ton of miles though...
I know 2 people that have over 300k miles on Toyota pickups with original motors. Jus sayin....
Is this a Toyota forum? Your comparison isn't even applicable... Like being on an iPhone forum discussing "how do you wireless charge" and you hop in and mention that you know two people who wirelessly charge with their Galaxy S8... Irrelevant...

To spend 300K miles behind the wheel of a Toyota is misery in my book...

BUT....financially huge. Image the cost of 6 leases (36K miles) being banked instead. Not saying I would do it, but cannot argue the financial logic around owning a low maintenance car for 300K miles.

This is not cost saving forum. This forum is thread after thread of people blowing big wads of cash and having a good time doing so. People don't want to talk about Toyota's. It's time to bury the subject. In the nicest way possible of coarse.

The 2021 will still be a G30. The next generation will be on the road in 2024.

2021 will just be an LCI G30 but yes, it will probably have ID7 and the other updates seen on the new cars.

Its just progress - manufacturers can't sit still just so we don't feel our cars have been superseded. In fact, this constant progress is designed to make us feel exactly that so we change more quickly. Also: the competition doesn't stand still so BMW can't either.

Actually I thought it was going to change in 2022 assuming they change the body style every 5 years. Thank you for the information.

The 'body style' (i.e. whole new generation; e.g. E39, E60, F10, G30) seems to last for a total of apx. 7 yrs, with a facelift (i.e. LCI) around halfway at apx 3.5 yrs.

But who knows what the future holds...

This is precisely why I decided to go with my 2019 M550ix at the last minute even though I had already ordered a 2019 X6 to replace my 2017 that was totaled last month. I didn't want to be in the last year of the lifecycle with the X6 F16. The 2020 X6 model should follow the 2019 X5.

a Toyota pick up from the 80's is very reliable

I think the V6 made 140hp and 180 torque

Yeah no stress motor

No power anything

Manual windows

Yeah nothing to break

I don't expect to see an all new 5-Series before 2024, assuming, BMW keeps the current six year life product cycle.

You are preaching to the choir.

I don't lease, financially it doesn't add up in my situation. I much rather own a vehicle 6-8 years, rinse and repeat. For that reason, Toyota products (And this includes Lexus) do not appeal to me in terms of what I expect from a vehicle. Reliability is important but it isn't the all encompassing factor. If it were, we all be driving toasters and refrigerators with 4 wheels attached. There is so much more to a fine car than it being just a mundane transportation appliance. You may disagree but vive la difference!

I have owned and driven BMW products for 20 years at a very reasonable cost of ownership. And again, the Toyota product and long term ownership experience doesn't do anything for me. The other day I took a look at a brand new Camry and it is one nasty cheap ass car, with hollow sounding doors, thin sheet metal, cheap plastics and the look and feel only a Toyota aficionado would love. And all that greatness for nearly $40K price? You gotta be kidding me. I rather drive a one or two year old BMW for that money.

So there you have it. To me the prospect of driving 300K miles behind the wheel of a Toyota is let's just say depressing!.

Will this bring back the Alcantera option for the US? I'm doing Euro delivery of a M550 in May and my current build does not allow me to add Anthracite Alcantera headliner.

If you are not given the option to select Alcántara more than likely it will not show up on your new car

It was an option on '18s, but due to supply constraints they took the option away. It was not available when I picked options for my build at the end of January. My car won't be built till April since I'm doing Euro delivery in May. This news has me hoping that the Alcantera headliner option might come back before production begins on my car.

FYI, it's difficult to change your build once the order has been accepted by BMW. Once it's in the production queue, even if it's several weeks away from production, you can't really make any changes without starting a brand-new order. I only know this because I tried in December.
